Title: meeting with family tomorrow for first time
Post by: Suzie on November 06, 2007, 08:00:12 PM
Hi!

I haven't been disclosing too much with what is happening with me to all of you.  But, tomorrow is a big step for me.  I am meeting with 2 siblings and 1 in-law for the first time in my desired gender.  We are having lunch in a restaurant.  They have been verbally supportive, but this is the first time they will see me in person.  Big milestone, I'm freaking out, no one in my family has seen me yet.  I pass OK, but I'm not 100%, depends on my mood, lighting, what hair wants to do, confidence level, and level of delusion I want to feed myself ;)

Wish me luck!  Any suggestions besides turn around and drive home?

Suzie

Best of luck to you, Suzie!

But you won't need luck - all you have to do is remember who you really are.

hugs & smiles

Good luck Suzie!!!

It scares me to death to think about when the time comes for me to tell my family.

Good luck, be yourself. A lot of how you behave around them will speak a ton. If you act nervous and uncomfortable....they will pick up on that and wonder if you are doing the right thing. If you are natural and happy.....they should be happy for you.

Exactly. Just remember that you ARE Suzie and NOTHING can change that: no matter what happens, how they react, or how you think you look.

I'm in the same exact situation (parents know and are supportive on the phone, but haven't seen me since I started transitioning), so I understand your worries. BUT... you are who you are. Deeeeeeep breath and SHOW them how happy you are now!

Thanks for your support everybody!

It went well.  I was nervous at first, but they were cool about it, and eventually I settled down.  It was an event that turned out to be a non-event.  Well, OK, it was still huge!  But, sometimes I don't give my family enough credit for being the intelligent, caring people that they are.  It's been a good day.

xo,
