Title: where would you put the limit on amt. of makeup you wear
Post by: stephaniec on December 26, 2016, 01:18:35 PM
Do you have a limit and what is it on the amount of makeup you wear. I usually just use a little foundation and eye liner and lashes, but there is a receptionist at my therapists office that uses a fair amount of shades and foundation and lashes and eyeliner . She's pretty and it does enhance her looks.  another reason I don't use much is because of the money.

My makeup usage is always limited by context -- by my understanding of the prevalent social expectations of a given situation.  Now, I rarely use makeup in the first place, because I generally adhere to a hippie aesthetic. (Context.)  For special gatherings with family, or certain professional situations, mascara and light foundation and lipstick. Only for a hot evening date would I put on my full face.

If I know how to properly do my face then it is fine to put more. If I don't, I won't over do it. Less is better in that case. Learn abd master the neutral makeup before moving to flashier and heavier stuff.

If I didnt have to wear contact lenses I might wear eye liner or mascara, but my ex psych said dont stress over it as there are plenty of wonen that dont use it for various reasons and sometime natural is better without it and takes less time getting ready just apply moisturiser,

Cheers Tracy

I would prefer to wear as little as possible. But, since I have some beard shadow to cover up, I can only do the no-makeup thing at home.  I would only use a bit of mascara and lipstick if I had my druthers.

It depends on the occasion.. woman generally wear more makeup at night than during the day. I generally don't wear a lot of makeup.

For every day to work.. I wear a little eye shadow, eye liner and mascara. Also lipstick with a dash of color on my cheeks. It takes me not even 5 minutes to apply my makeup in the mornings.

At night, my eye shadow becomes more and I will wear darker colors and I apply it to a larger area.. during the day my eye shadow is mostly light colors and only applied to my eye lid.

I love make up but realize it easy to over do it.  My current situation of not out to most people I mostly only use some foundation or tinted moisturizer to cover the shadow.  I'll put on some eyeliner, mascara and lip stick when I can.  I think when I come out at work the foundation, eye liner and lipstick or gloss would be my usual.  Add some eye shadow and bolder color lipstick for those days when you just have to.

My limit is when it starts to look "heavy and forced".

Well, I tend to use a lot in terms of products and coverage, pretty much over my entire face.  I'm trying to hide remaining shadow and some spotting and unevenness from electrolysis and skin cancer treatments, as well as trying to provide gender cues.

The thing is, while I do use a lot of makeup, it is very lightly applied, and I try to be subtle about it.  I really don't want the 'drag queen' look!

I dumped my 'daily look' makeup drill here, along with before and after pics:

I never, ever go anywhere without using at least brow powder, concealer, mascara, and lip gloss. On most days I also wear face powder, a brown or neutral eyeshadow, and blush as well. My skin is pretty good and I find foundation too cakey for daily use, but if I am going out to a fancy dinner or party then I also wear foundation and heavier or more sparkly forms of my daily cosmetics. It all just depends on the circumstances. I would pretty much never put on metallic blue eyeshadow and flame red lipstick just to go to the grocery store (and I think doing so would invite unwanted scrutiny) but if was going to a bar or something, sure.

For everyday, none. OK, sometimes my nails.
For occasions, whatever my wife fixes me up as. My hands are not steady enough for anything but my nails, she does the rest for me.

I have used cosmetics and Portrait Pro to make myself look better than a Kardashian. But that I do for me in the comfort of my own room. Simple is better but a lady never goes without lipstick. Even if it does have lead in it :-}

Still working on clearing my face so foundation is a must. Once that is on; a bit of blush, some eye color, mascara about half the time and always, lip color. I do this daily and it is all done in ~10 minutes. Evenings out give more opportunities. And I love the look. - Anne

As Aria94 said, there is no limit!! I absolutely looooooove makeup and love to play around with it. My daily looks is everything. Foundation, concealer, highlight and contour, eyebrows, eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, blush, lipstick/gloss, eyelashes, etc!! But also, I'm a makeup artist so it kinda helps "going all out" as it's kind of like walking advertisement. lol

I'm almost always limited by the amount of time I hae to get ready for whatever it is I might need makeup for. If it's going to work ... yeah, that's gonna be none at all. :-\

When it comes to passable makeup, I always say that subtlety is the best way to go.  I like to go with basic eyeliner, subtle lipstick, and plenty of foundation, concealer, and blush to hide stubble and contour the rough edges.  Too much going on can draw attention to the wrong things and actually bring out male traits without meaning to.

That being said, I have a thing of 15 or so colors I got from the dollar store, and there are quite a few lipsticks, nail polishes, and eyeliners there.  I'd experiment with the cheap stuff before worrying that the good stuff is a big investment.

My personal preference is light makeup. I have foundation but only wear it maybe a couple days per month. I know that this is somewhat at odds with me looking as feminine as possible, (facial shadow) but i like the look of light makeup on me.

Eyeliner (often browns or whites during the day)
BB cream or eye cream to reduce eye shadows for when i am tired
Lip Gloss or Tinted lip balm
Maybe a bit of mascara

That is my daily plan at present.

When people start asking if I am a contestant on RuPaul's Drag Race  --yup, that's the limit for now.  I tend to wear very little if any.
