On browsing the forums, I didn't find a thread where people could post their desktops, so I thought I would make one :)
Post your current desktop here and please update us when you personalise or edit it :D I think that someone's desktop can often show a great deal about their personality, their loves or hates and their hobbies or interests. I love seeing what images people have as wallpaper too, have seen some really funky designs in my time.
Here is mine, the background is a little odd when captured stationary as its an animation. This is my music desktop where I have it sitting the most, I currently use 5 desktops on rotation using Beryl. if you'd like to know more on customising Linux, just ask me and I'll be glad to help :) just click to enlarge:

If you need a place to upload your screenie to, may I suggest www.freeimagehosting.net or www.imageshack.us for pure simplicity

Lols, yeah, I panicked for a second and was just standing there with a burning wok in hand trying to remember my fire training as a chef before I tound a towel and covered the pan. By that time there was a layer of ash on everything and the air was black lol, coughing like mad now. Managed to put a circular burn into the countertop, oups... could have been so much worse though!
Look forward to seeing the lappy desktop :D

I love my Mac, too. Steph -- how's Leopard working for you, anyway? It looks so pretty! I haven't gotten it yet cause I'm unsure how it will work on my iMac G5 and also I have CS2 and I don't know if it will work in Leopard (CS3 only works in Intel macs, sadly, and I use CS2 way to much for different design things).

I just realized that my desktop looks like a teenage girls -- just more cleaned up (yeah, i actually cleaned it up a bit before I posted it to some how make me look more organized). I'm just realizing that my "appointments" on there are just appointments for people to hang out with and doctors. Wow, my life is weird. And of course, the reminder for me to get a job. LOL. I look organized and professional until you start seeing what's actually written. hehe

Keep em coming this is good!
btw, if you are unsure how to make a screenshot. just hit the Prt Scr button on your kyboard, open up MS Paint or your fav paint program and hit the 'Edit' menue, then 'Paste' (or just Ctrl + V on your keyboard) et voila! you have a screenshot :D then just save it as a jpg to wherever you like, probably your desktop is best for convenience

I find it interesting there is only 1 Vista user so far. You would think the way Micro $oft touts it, everybody is using it. Nice to see a bunch of Mac users. My personal Favorite is Linux though...wich is pretty much what Macs use.

Kimberly: I would soooo tidy your desktop if I even got near to your PC lol, but thas cause I'm a clean freak when it comes to desktop tidyness and organisation :D
>_<
Lori: Yeah, I like Linux best too, being free and more customizable than Mac OS and more stable than Windows by a long way I think its the best option and prettiest also :D
Vista is over priced and falls short of delivering anywhere near the customizability and stability of Linux. I have a Vista HP x64 install though, which I use for Games only and the odd bit of CS3 work, I only got the 64bit version as I use a dual core 64 processor with 6GB ram which otherwise wouldnt be utilized, where it not for that support I'd never have gotten Vista at all, its just not worth it yet.

I feel a better option for gaming right now is still windows XP professional wich Will Use 2 processors. XP Home will not. With 2 gig of ram and an Intel 6750 Duo Core processor and the brand new 8800GT..the benchmarks are higher than a computer with Vista64, a 600.00+8800GTX, and 4 gig of memory. In some games, the 768meg 8800 GTX are slower than the 640meg GTX. But at $800... its not harldy worth it....you could spend 190-250 for the GT8800 and get damn near the same FPS. Also 6 gig of DDR2 is probably not giving you any more FPS in your game and I've seen systems play smoother with 4 gig. Most games are not optimised for 64 bit OS's and only a few take advantage of two cores. In fact I've seen the benchmarks at Toms Hardware and some of the games running on quad core processors run slower. Cache is important....4meg cache rules over 2meg. Vista machines runs about 15%-50% slower due to the OS design and stupid security tying up the system bus every 30ms. I have only seen one game that ran a bit Faster on Vista.
Also the new 8800GT is pci-x 2.0 compliant and on a new X38 board with DDR3 ....that system will pretty much roast anything. Price wise though the Intel p35 chipset with DDR2 is much cheaper and faster with the lower latencies of DDR-2 now.
What Vista will allow in the future though is DirextX 10 and with Crysis shipping soon, I may have to switch but there are some hacks in XP to set it to super high resolution and it looks just as good....so until they can get Vista to outbench one of my Uber Game machines, I'm sticking with XPPro for gaming.....you may want to stick another drive in your HP and put XPPro on it JJ for a better performing system. You will be shocked how much smoother your games run. I'd also drop the Ram down to 2gig of really high quality DDR2 that had 4-4-4-12 latency. Believe me I have tested all configurations and processors and operating systems. I always get 5-10 frames more per second than just about anybody I ever ever met. There are ways to really optimise your system. There is such a thing as too much ram. Processor speed is pretty critical but once you get past the Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Processor, price negates any of the benefits you may gain from a faster chip at this time. I know all this because ..well its my job lol. I have pretty much unlimited funds and I have tested so many configurations. I love doing this stuff. I cannot wait until DDR3 drops in price and they get the bandwidth situated for the new PCIX 2.0. But that will all come by the end of 2008...so we will wait.

I understand and have read all the benchmarks etc. I bought Vista HP (Home Premium, I do not have a HP machine, its all custom built by me) 64 bit as the XP Pro x64 has less support for my kit than Vista x64. Also, having previously run XP Pro x64 and XP Pro 32 bit, the Vista setup is actually surprisingly faster on my setup, with 1k more in 3Dmark 06 over XP Pro x64. I think it all depends on your personal setup rather than stock, I run my CPU overlocked only mildly (3.2GHZ instead of standard 3) and only Overclock my standard 8800GTS 640mb to 600 core and 1000 mem clock which performs superbly. Another reason I chose to buy Vista over a new legit xp pro is naturally the DX10 support and the fact that the XP hacks will be inferior in future games. I don't really play that many at the mo, but the games that I play play better on Vista so far than on XP pro.
My full setup at the moment is: AMD 64 x2 6000+ @ 3.2GHZ, Enermax Liberty 500W Clean PSU, TT Tribe Water Cooling (external), TT Soprano case with optional side panel, TT Hardcano 12 SE fan controller with 2 Tornado fans, 6GB Dual Channel DDR2 800 running at 1k, 2 x SATA 2 x IDE 1 External HDD Totaling 1.1tb with 3 separate OS installs (Feisty 7.04 as primary, 7.10 as test and Vista HP 64 as gaming), 8800GTS 640mb @ 600cc 1000mc, Audigy 2 ZS (trusty old card and very compatible), DL DVD RW, Dual 17" TFTs (cheap ones but work nicely) Genius Ergomedia 700 kb, Genius Ergo 525 Laser Mouse, Wacom Stylus pad, 9.2 total surround.
I realize that those stats are fact in a lot of setups, but I promise you in mine, they seem to be incorrect as I've found that over all I've had a performance increase with both my extra 2gb ram over 4gb and also with using Vista 64 over xp 64. Perhaps its just my setups or the games I choose to play, or the features I have purged from Vista to clean it up a bit, but I'ma stick with it for the mo. Linux will always be my primary though and I've been able to run many progs and games under WINE that I'd usually have to force myself to play in windows :)
Well, thats my personal experience anyways, I don't mean to discredit you in any way at all so please don't take it that way :) I use my system mainly for editing, so I need the extra ram so that I can allocate different Editing and coding processes exra resources, especially so I can edit multiple images and have them all reversable to the start of my editing, this is very important to me and where the 6gb comes in very handy indeed.

Leopard is working great. The install went very well and I'm very pleased with the upgrade. I think you will enjoy it.

Leopard is a Mac version, I think. I confess I am too rushed to google it at the moment! But when in doubt, goggle leopard an see what comes up.
On a Windows machine to grab your desktop:
1. Get your desktop looking how you want; Arrange windows, etc.
2. Press the <PrtScr> (also known as print screen)
3. Open Paint (comes with windows) or other image editing program.
4. In Paint, select the "Edit" menu, then the "Paste" menu option.
5. A image of your desktop should appear in the paint window; You should be able to scroll around the image and so on.
6. Select the "File" menu, then the "Save As..." menu option.
7. A dialog shows up allowing you to choose the location to save the image at, the name and the file type.
8. IMPORTANT, From the "Save as type" drop down box select the option which has "JPEG" in it. This will specify the type of image file; You can ignore this part but if you do your desktop image will be "huge" in file size and there is no reason for that.
9. Give the image a name, and press enter.
10. The dialog goes away, your image should be saved.
That is all there is too it.
Then you just upload the image to the image host of your choice, and then use the link they specify for your img tags here.
Yes, it sounds very complex but it is not too bad, just take it a step at a time and you will be done before you know it (=

Ok, here's my new one. It's still Kingdom Hearts, the first one this time. The picture on the left is the front cover of the game box. I don't know where I got this one either.

It's kinda big, you'll have to scroll across to see the whole thing.

There's "Light At The End Of The World". "Ascent" it's standard with XP but always liked it :icon_bunch:
Yeah, I use that one too. I like it because you can situate the desktop icons so that they are in the "sky" and they do not obscure the "view".

Yep, it's great, but I have a hardware problem that keeps doing goofy things to my mac -- after doing a ton of unix stuff, repairs, testing, and etc, I know it's not the software. I'm pretty sure the ram is messed up, and I've got some geeky friends for their opinion, and it seems to be the ram based on the strange issues I've recently have been getting.
