Hii there, I was hoping to hear from someone who has been to Fenway Health. An to hear their experience.  :)

Hi Vanessa- I use Fenway. I started visiting them in September and now have been on HRT almost a month. I'm very happy with my PA and the nurses and the organization. It's long drive for me as I live on the cape. My PCP recommended Fenway over local docs. They have probably the most experience in Trans care in Mass. When I visit there are always many trans and gender variant folks there. I wish they had a satellite clinic closer. PM me if you have any specific questions. L

Hii Lauren! Thanks for reading my post an replying back. Did you need a referral from your PCP to get seen at Fenway? Also I heard they go by the WPATH guidelines of "Informed Consent" is this true?

I haven't been to Fenway as a patient, rather I've been at the facility for community and volunteer work. It's an amazing place, I haven't used them as my insurance would require that I have a PCP there **and AFAIK, my insurance also doesn't allow me to have a PCP that's not within the university's medical practice**. It might be that I could break that catch 22 by asking for a transexual specific PCP but my PCP has been fine at least in that regard.

Sorry to digress, I'm sure you'll need a referral but they should be in network for most insurance and I can't imagine you won't be happy with their care, certainly you won't be talking to people you have to educate on trans issues :-).

I had gone to my local PCP and basically came out to her that I was Trans. She was great and asked some good questions even though she wasn't real experienced the trans people. She was the one who suggested Fenway (rather than the local-yokels) and said she'd make a reference for me. She also coded me diagnostically as being transgender (there's an insurance code for it). Interestingly, the office called me back and said Fenway does not require a referral and I can call anytime to make an appointment. When I got to that first visit, I found out they use informed consent. They are cautious and methodical and you end up visiting a few times and do blood-work before they prescribe. And, they will connect with my PCP as needed. Fenway will actually take you on as your PCP if you want. I didn't do this because I live so far away and am quite comfortable with my doc. I just got on insurance during open enrollment, I'm going to get a Primary Care Physician through Fenway since I want to use their Informed Consent program as well. Kills two birds with one stone, and I live in Weymouth so getting into Boston isn't that bad for me.
