Title: What would you choose...?

As most of you know, I'm not afraid to stir the pot and so I have a provocative question I'd like to ask. This comes from a couple of other threads where people talk about desiring female beauty. Here it is:
A fairy princess appears to you and says, "I offer you two choices. Even though you don't like being a man I can make you into a handsome successful man, or I can turn you into a woman but I have to warn you that you'll be short, fat, ugly, and have terrible acne. Which do you choose?"
[Disclaimer: I am making no personal comment about looks, weight, height, or acne, I am drawing on a stereotype here for illustration only. If anyone finds this offensive, I'll withdraw the post]
I'll save my answer for later.

I'd go with the woman.
1) Fat: You can loose weight
2) Ugly: Plastic Surgery
3) Acne: see 2
4) Short: Nothing a pair of six inch heels wont cure. ;D
Hmmm wait a minute considereing 2 and 3 and as it stands I'm going to get most of that anyway,(Surgery that is) I think I would just say thanks but no thanks, I'll do it myself. >:D
And what kind of a fairy princess are you anyway? :icon_poke:

The girl.
As Cassandra points out, the body you described would be a fixer-upper. And I'd just have to develop a radiant personality to overcome the obstacles you've built into this thought experiment ;-)

Wow, Dawn !!
While I was getting dressed this morning I was actually thinking along these same lines and had considered posing some thoughts myself-- VERY ironic that you brought it up and I'm glad you did, because once I started my day I forgot all about it... :)
For anyone who doesn't know, I'm a GG. As I was dressing I was casually reflecting on my body type, and I shut myself up real quick when I told myself, "But I'm a girl, and I didn't have to struggle for it."
I'll tell you, I certainly have tried on different lenses since coming to Susan's....it really makes you think, you know?
Of course I realize that pre-transition you all were always girls on the inside (or guys, for Dennis & Crew) , so I don't mean to suggest that the external is all that makes one a man or a woman...
If I had to choose between staying the way I am, or becoming a total knockout in a guy's body, I'd definitely wanna' stay a girl.
Incidentally, Dawn, no offense was taken at your question, it was well-stated. The truth is that there are such things as fat and acne and crooked teeth and bad hair....so to not recognize such things is silly. But whether those things make someone ugly is all relative. I've been infatuated with people who have had those and other characteristics that society says are 'ugly', and yet to me they were quite beautiful....
Too, perhaps there is no person so beautiful as the one who becomes who they were meant to be... meaning in all things, not only sex/gender...
Anyway sorry to ramble on like that, and my apologies for intruding, I understand you probably intended to get TS viewpoints and here I've written the longest response so far.
XO,
Valerie

Except to comb my hair in the morning, I don't have to look at myself so ugly doesn't matter. Neither does acne. Fat? I'm living with too much of that already anyway. Short? I own a ladder!
Anyway, ugly is as ugly feels. I know what being a man feels like.
So, conjure away and give me that magical GRS (and send the bill to . . . .)

Darn you Cassie, I was going to reply with "handsome successful man" (tongue in cheek of course.) :( Anyways, I agree with Dennis. I would hate to be a supermodel, and I would definitely go with wolfman.
1 - (Short) I'm already short.
2 - (Fat) Eh, I work out. There are fat athletic people out there.
3 - (Ugly) whatever. It's better than looking in the mirror and seeing the wrong gender.
4 - (Wolfman) Ahwooooooooooooo!! :icon_weee: I don't go to the beach much anyway.

So whats behind door number 3 cause that fairy needs to get a life. A girl of course but I am not going to let some one dictate to me how I will look if I choose the second option. The only fairy I know charges a lot of money for the operations and as we all know you get what you pay for. I would be suspicious of that little fairy and try to find another opinion (hehe).

Not to ressurect an ancient thread, lol, but it's too coincidental I just stumbled upon this right now, as I had just written in my journal,
"It's funny, but I once said a long time ago, that it's not so much wanting to be female, it's wanting to be HER, whomever she is."
So I actually might hesitate a bit before choosing to be the girl you offer. Not because she's short and ugly and so on, but because she's not ME. Yes, I'd be female finally, but I still wouldn't be me, if you know what I mean. I'd probably still pick it as the lesser of evils, but with some hesitation.
In my journal, I was musing that I've always been haunted by this very specific image of a girl - the girl I assume I was supposed to be. I can SEE her in my mind's eye. I can FEEL her body as mine when I close my eyes at night. I often recognize bits and pieces of Her in other people - hair colour, eyes, body physique, and so on. It's an odd thing. It kinda reminds me of how the guy in Close Encounters felt compelled to mold the tower shape, even though he didn't know why or what it was. In some odd way, I feel compelled to mold "her."
But now we're getting into the depths of my insanity here, lol, so I'd best stop ;)

I'd go with the woman.
1) Fat: You can loose weight (I need to lose some weight)
2) Ugly: Plastic Surgery (SRS, nose and chin probably :P)
3) Acne: see 2 (so far I don't have them but in case I get them; see no.2)
4) Short: Nothing a pair of six inch heels wont cure. (true, but with 178 cm I'm not exactly short :))
as Cassandra points out, the girl of course, I know that I'll never be perfect as the real women's are but I will try to look the best I can . I'm sure only in this whatever I'll look like, it will still be better than it's now when I'm trapped in this men's body ...

Even the genetic women aren't perfect women. You have to realize that everyone is different and there is no unobtainable level of perfection than only genetic women can reach. Just be yourself. As the cat in the hat (movie version) says, "there is a third option". Nobody considered not taking either choice and just being yourself or just doing it without the options offered. If you notice, the fairy princess never said you had to take the options, they were only offered.

OK. I'll add my 2 cents to this. I would choose to be the "unattractive" woman. Although it's very much a cliche', the first step to beauty comes from inside. Feeling good about yourself can overcome an awful lot of physical limitations. Having lived in a body all my life that is both physically and emotional unattractive, I know that 1 out of 2 would be a big improvement.

Looking at some of the replies made me think of the support group I just started going to. Nice girls, but some of them look a little beat up to be honest. Just careless about their looks, bad hair, messed up teeth. They seem to have that same self neglect that men cultivate as part of their carelessly rugged self image. Weird, because most GGs I know take much better care of themselves. Yes it's their trip, but I don't get it, why take the risks and go to the trouble if you don't want to keep it looking good?
To me, becoming a woman is the most miraculous thing in the world, the pearl of great price. I'm sure going to honour that in every way that says cherish.

My teeth had always bothered me... everyone I looked at seemed to have these perfectly straight, brilliant teeth. It made me feel horrible comparing myself to them. So I spent a ton of money (for me) and "fixed" them. And wouldn't you know it, now when I look around it seems they really weren't any worse than everyone else's, lol.
I dunno, it just seems that perception and self-image are curiously playful things sometimes.

With out a doubt I would have to choose the woman; I'm already short and fat, although I do not consider myself ugly but as a woman there is still a lot to be desired and acne well there are doctors. For me the ability to be 100% GG I would a true dream come true.

The woman -- the fixes have already been stated in this topic.
As I was having my epiphany, there were three questions I read that really had an effect on me and kind of showed me who I am in a way I couldn't hide frome any more:
(I'm paraphrasing here...)
1. You will be re-conceived and re-born. Nothing will change about you except before this happens, you get to choose your body's gender. What will you choose?
2. Same as above, except that whichever gender you choose, you will be totally that gender. In other words, you will be completely comfortable in that gender with no gender dysphoria. What will you choose?
3. When you die, which gender do you wish to be remembered as?
My answer came up female, three for three. That pretty much settled it for me.

I would choose being the unattractive woman. I am coming to realize that this is who I truly am inside. I would rather have my physic match my psyche than be in discord.

The weird thing is when people read you based on your inner state. The other day I had come from my therapists and needed to be alone, so I was leaned up against a rail staring out into the Gulf waters off St Petersburg's city pier. A tourist kid says teasingly, in my direction"Look at the giiirl." His father shut him down with,"That's not a girl, that's a boy." Wonder what that kid saw, because I was mm and not fem in the slightest. It's like being "Mammed." People apologise, but inside, it makes you feel good. But again I wonder if they're sorta seeing with on a low volume telepathy setting, versus using their eyes.
