The Women's March on Washington just released an incredibly radical feminist platform

By Collier Meyerson @ FUSION

http://fusion.net/story/380533/womens-march-on-washington-radical-feminist-platform/

Just eight days ahead of its main event, The Women's March on Washington, a protest against the incoming administration, released a wide-reaching and radically inclusive platform. . . .

Doubling down on its commitment to inclusivity, the group acknowledges the American Indian Movement, Occupy Wall Street, Marriage Equality, Black Lives Matter in its platform. It also lists the names of prominent third world women, women of color, lesbian, and trans women as inspiration. . . .

The platform draws special attention to the country's most vulnerable populations: poor women, women of color, and trans women. . . .
---------------------------------------
If the news I have been reading is accurate, there will be a whole lot more people attending this march than are attending the president's inauguration just a couple of days before.

This is the people's resistance.

Is anyone attending? I had planned to, but just can't swing it. I'll be doing the local sister March instead.

I'm doing the local marches in Walnut Creek and San Francisco.  Flying to Beltway country isn't practical for me yet.

This is the women's movement we're talking about, in that context I wouldn't identify that platform as radical per se. Happily mainstream feminism has been accepting of trans people for a while now :-).

There is nothing in their platform that i would describe as radical, except to note that sadly on MLK day we have to admit that equality for all and social justice seem radical to many. Perhaps this is because i see radical as a negative term, but i liked what a FB post called it: progressive.

May we all progress to a world where everyone is treated equal and everyone realizes that equality for all does not mean less for them.

I will be at the corresponding march in Portland.

As several people have noted there are many places around the USA and beyond that will sponsor a Women's March on January 21st. We will have one in our small city of Astoria too.

Just one more way we vote with our feet and are counted as people with a voice!  Silence = complicity.  An old bumper sticker slogan that still resonates.

It'll be interesting to see where the TERFs stand on all this. I can't see them aligning with the new Administration, but who knows what they'd do to forward their agenda.

I think they are a very small minority of feminists.

I'be been in various actions at the start of every recent administration.  Many of us see them simply as a way to remind the Beltway dwellers that we are out here, and have some issues we would like to see addressed.

This is just another new administration, and they need to be poked a bit to learn how to be responsive to the Will of The People, before they get too involved in Beltway navel-gazing.

From what i have seen on Facebook from the various organizers, one message that is very consistent is that this is not an administration that should be normalized or allowed the comfort of normality in any way. So what you will likely see is a continuing effort through various channels to create as much discomfort as possible. There are a myriad of ways to do this of course as we have seen worldwide.

I see this as important.  I can not compare this to any of the past administrations that i disagreed with (Clinton, Bush etc.)

In Washington today there was twice as many people at the march as there were at the inauguration yesterday. That says something.

Why the protests? Conservatives didn't do this with Barry Soetoro when he became President. We but our tongues for 8 yrs. Donald Trump won fair and square.
