Title: I came out to my 20 year old daughter - She is cool
Post by: Donna on January 19, 2017, 08:07:16 PM
I had described my family members to my therapist and how I am so cautious about telling my wife that I am stuck.
My therapist asked what would happen if told my daughter?
I said I was sure she would be cool with me being transgender.

You know what?
Even better. Not only is she fine with me being transgender and telling her that I have always identified as female, we suddenly reached a very deep level of communication we never had before. She opened up to me about her thoughts and feelings and insecurities and depression. Trust begets trust.

Coming out to my 20 year old daughter went very, very well indeed.

Onward and upward.
Next, my wife.
Soon.

Hi Donna,

Congrats, sounds like you have a great daughter.

My wife has known for the most part of 30 years, although she's not happy about it, but I've never told my daughters.  They are just slightly younger than your daughter.  One I'm pretty sure would be fine.  The other I'm not so sure.   Maybe it's time I should let them know.

Good luck with your wife.
Paige :)

That's awesome about your daughter!   Curious if you have any other children and coming out to one and not the others.  I would love to come out to my daughter as well, but it seems it would be tougher to come out to my son?   And one else who has dealt with this?

Yeah, my daughter is 19. She's been cool. Helps with nails and hair and stuff. Her brother, 23 anthropologist, not so much. He's OK but not really accepting yet. Now their mother, my ex-wife, not so much. Can't blame her though, I can't even begin to put myself in her shoes.

Congratulations, Donna!  I guess you must have raised her right.  :)

Thanks, everyone!
I also have a son slightly older. I just know in advance he will not be so cool about it, so I am telling him later, after I tell my wife.

Full disclosure with my wife is coming soon. How soon I do not know, but since I promised myself I will not start taking my Estradiol and Spironolactone until I have had this discussion with my wife, and given the fact that I really want to start my HRT as soon as possible, I will have to tell her soon. Then I will tell my son.
