I feel for you.  I am not there yet, but in a couple of months I will be fighting the monkey.

It's so frustrating isn't it?
I wish they didn't exist in the first place.
Also good luck!
I need to quit bc of my appointment in June (doubt I'd be taking hormones then tho)

I felt great when I got going but I also felt anxious because cigarettes have a strange effect on me they make me feel extremely calm so much that I don't really feel like myself idk if having autism has anything to do with it or maybe it's just my body
This is why it's hard to quit for me [emoji17]
Thank you for your kind words, liz

I need to quit before I start hrt.  So I am giving myself another month.  You can do it.  It just requires the right motivation.  I never thought that I would even consider quitting, but now it seems possible.

Almost everyone who has quit or has tried to quit knows how difficult it is

I've quit so many times I ran out of fingers and toes to keep count with

I actually quit for a few years once, can't even remember what jarred me back into it, but something got to me

Now I have C.O.P.D. and have to use an inhaler on a daily basis and of course my Endo, G.P. and just about everyone else is on my case

We're not allowed to smoke indoors where I live either, so there I am going out at 2AM in -20 degree weather just to pollute myself for a few minutes - Luckily it's not always quite that cold but that gives an idea of how strong the urge to smoke can be

I've been able to cut down significantly but still can't quite seem to completely kick the habit  :-\  I generally smoke 5-6 cigs a day so depending on my stress levels a pack will last me for at least a few days or so

Trouble is, I enjoy smoking and also it's one of my 'Think tank' devises I use when I'm either bored or if I have something important on my mind that I'm trying to work out

So I figure I'll either quit, literally die trying or just say heck with it and not worry one way or the other

Anyway, best of luck with what you decide to do about your habit

Ive been on Chantix for exactly one week. I went from a pack a day to about 5 a day. During the rest of this week i will cut that down even further. Im taking advil and ibuprofen to help with withdrawls and it does help. Chantix is supposed to bind to the nicotine receptors which means smoking does nothing for you. I noticed on day one that a cigarette wasnt nearly as rewarding.
You still get withdrawls but they are easier to muscle through while on chantix. So far i have not had any of the crazy side effects people post about. One girl said she had an entire conversation with a potted plant on a sidewalk. Wow. I have smoked for 20 years. I am so dedicated to getting on HRT i knew i had to quit.
Find whatever motivates you and use it. Its friggin rough. But like many here, i never thought i could quit. Im so close right now. A couple more weeks and i can be smoke free.

Okay.  I have given myself a date for quitting.  I should be able to lose 15-20 lbs by 2/22/17,  That is when I will be done with cigarettes.  Less thanot one month.  Then I will schedule an appointment with Dr Westrick and start hrt.  I will have to take pills as they are cheaper and my insurance doesn't cover anything transgender related, so I will have to go out of pocket.  I did decide every dollar that I don't spend on cigs will go into an account for surgeries.   That way it goes to a good use.  Plus, out of pocket again thanks to crappy 8nsurance.

Have you tried vaping yet? That's what I used to quit a few years ago (although kind of back to it off and on because of a trip to Vegas last year, I'm going back to vaping soon). When I initially quit it took me about 5 days before being off of everything.  Good luck, you can do it.

I asked my social worker about C.O.P.D and god does it sound awful. :C I'm sorry that it's happened to you and I believe that you can do it!
Yeah, smoking relaxes me and makes it easier to deal with my mental illness, plus, I like seeing the sky as I smoke.
5-6 sounds a lot better than what you were smoking. *hugs*

Yeah, I caved and bought a twenty packet. *ashamed* god I need to get my life together.

I've always thought vaping was a little obnoxious due to the amount of smoke it produces. I mean, that's just me but whatever works for you!
I've got an e cigarette but the problem is smoking is well, really hard to give up. :(

Get yourself a good e-cig and some 18 to 24 mg nicotine e-juice.  That will cost you around $100 for a good quality initial setup but you will be able to immediately walk away from tobacco with only a minor adjustment period.

Hey GB

I want to echo Liz's post and pat you on the back for making 4 days.  Good for YOU!   That's a temporary success and heck yes, keep on trying and you can do it.  Stats inform us that most smokers want to quit.  There is a pharmacologic explanation for feeling "relaxed" after we reawaken those noisy receptors sites in our brain.  Please don't let that "ah yes"  feeling of taking a hit fool ya.  Contrary to the rush of answering the addictive call, the tiniest to the mightiest blood vessels in your body immediately start to constrict, nourishing blood flow is reduced.   There are simply no benefits to smoking.  Let the urge go steadily quieter and consider a million better ways to find that relaxed state of mind and body you can create once you're free.

It is so good to finally give up the internal arguments of should I or shouldn't I buy a pack?  No packing around lighters or matches, no smelly breath or clothes and no knocking on your self esteem about it.  Kick em to the curb dude!

Most mods come with buttons to adjust them so they give out less vapor, also smaller mods that are closer to what a cigarette gives out. But hey, if it's not your thing you'll find something that works.

I know this might not be a nice response but once you are told your throat and larynx will have to be removed due to cancer from smoking, I gave up straight away.

Maybe use that as motivation. Next time you have any slight pain in your throat is it the sign?

My symptoms were a slight cough and a hoarse voice for 4 weeks or so. I was told that if the cancer had started to metastasise I would just have gone to palliative care to wait for the end.

Scary! Yes. And true.

Your call another pack but ........ are you coughing?

The one time that I successfully quit for a long time, I bought little hard candies and gum to keep my mouth occupied, it helped out a lot.  Good luck with your endeavor.

I've just started quitting by using lozenges. So far I haven't had a cigarette in a week and a half.
They help with the urges and I've cut back on them as well. Hopefully in a month I'll have gotten off them as well.
Good luck
I smoked 2 packs a day or more and dread seeing my doctor because of it but this is working so I'm hopeful

It's not nice but it's the truth.
One resident in another carehome, died and he was on oxygen. If anything it's sad how cigarettes can ruin people's lives and health.
Thanks, cindy!
I finally had enough and broke up all the remaining cigarettes, now using e-cigarettes. I was scared to come off of them because I used it to cope with voices. (it made me so calm) But, then I remembered I've coped with voices without smoking.
Goddamn it I'm way too young to die from smoking!!!

Ah, thank you!
you're right smoking has no benefits yet here were are puffing away like chimleys lmao. I suspected the 'relaxed' feeling was due to something bad. The good news is I'm getting tired of smoking, it's lost it's edge.
Maybe replacing it with some activity would work?
Thinking meditation or drawing or reading, I like it a lot.

They are minty and not horrible. I'm not really a candy person so I figured this is something I can get rid of easier.
Had the occasional craving the other day and a bad one this morning, but nothing that was too hard to deal with.
Every little bit helps if you want it too
