Title: I had a throat scan today and yippee
Post by: Cindy on January 25, 2017, 05:31:14 AM
I have a nasopharyngeal endoscope stuck down my nose into my throat every 4 weeks as a screen for my cancer. Ihad one today and it was all clear!

I have a PET scan in February which is a critical one but my medics are starting to talk about a remission which is wonderful news.

I was told by my surgeon that I'm one of the most determined and hard nosed people he has met. He then paused and said, considering the life you have been through that is not surprising.

I got home and spoke to Sue by phone and she was looking forward to be released from hospital.  She is feeling fine.

I'm feeling good, I will never be able to speak very well as one vocal cord is dead, my hearing is crap, my tastebuds are dead and I don't produce saliva so eating is interesting but life is lovely and I am me.

Never say never.

CONGRATS!  It's great news and I wish you the very best.
As one that's been told three times now that I had cancer, twice that it was terminal and the last time it was inoperable along with terminal. I know the fear, depression and helplessness you have probably gone through. It was kidney cancer for me. It's been 2 years and 4 months since the last effort to kill it and in 2 weeks I go in for a CT scan and labs to see if it is still gone.  There are no guarantees with cancer but there is always hope.
Hang in there and keep fighting.

Jeanette

Thank you everyone. It is lovely to receive love and support.

The radiotherapy also went through my jaw so my tooth gums are damaged so I need to see a special care dentist every few weeks or months as I progress.

I saw her today and she thinks if I get any taste back it will be in the next 3-6 months. I also had a saliva test, I produce very little. Mmm I knew that!

She recommended I use a baking soda mouth wash of half a teaspoon of baking soda in a cup of water three or 4 times a day instead of the commercial stuff. It is better for the PH of my mouth which has gone all wonky as well.

Damn site cheaper than commercial mouth wash and very easy to make at the sink!
