Title: Emotions? Perspective?
Post by: Veda on January 31, 2017, 11:21:08 AM
Hi all, I've been reading much about the physical effects of HRT, but not much about how it changes ones emotional state, or life perspective.

Hopefully I will be starting HRT soon and I would love to hear some personal observations about how these things have changed for you.

  Hi Veda

Most will say something about the calming effects of HRT but for myself I haven't really noticed a difference in that respect. It could be I have already mellowed with age as a fine wine does.
I have noticed tears come easier now. It doesn't help watching old episodes of Highway To Heaven. But I haven't experienced any huge mood swings at all. (BTW I don't consider those squirrels running amok in my head as anything but normal as they have always been there)

I hope your journey is just as mellow as mine.

It calmed me. I suffered from anxiety and depression (most of my adult life for both) before HRT and after the anxiety has completely disappeared and the depression is a lot better. Dysphoric feelings about my body are gone and those are definitely emotional.

I feel less aggressive and competitive, that may sound stereotypical but it is definitely a change. Now bad experiences impact me far less. My emotions about love and sex drive have changed. I love the little things about intimacy now, whereas before i was always "big picture". Basically i am more present in the moment than i ever was.
