Title: Requirements
Post by: Aubree on February 02, 2017, 10:55:26 AM
My doctors and therapist have been giving me a hard time with starting hormones and I wanted to know if they know what they're saying or are making it up because they aren't trained in it. I'm told: "Too young" (I'm 16) "Have to be stable" (Been to the hospital for depression three times in the past 2 months) and "There's not enough evidence to say you're transgender" (Though they even have my preferred name in the system and have me marked as female and not male like body says). If you can help with that, thank you. Can you also put in all the requirements?

These days, children with gender dysphoria, about to enter puberty, will be put on blockers to prevent sex hormone production and I know a few who started taking hormones as early as 15-16 yrs of age. Every case is unique. HRT has been known to be quite effective at relieving depression if depression is deemed to be strongly associated to living in the wrong gender and body. Maybe you can try and contact other health professionals in your region and get a second and third opinion?

Hi so you need a lil help. Your 16 and to start puberty blocker or HRT you would need parental consent. It's possible your health care givers may be poor choices to help you. Generally a person 18 and over will just need therapy for a few months, then has to live presenting female full time for a few extra months. Hope I helped.

In most states, 16 year Olds can direct their own healthcare (including mental health issues).  I would seek out other healthcare providers.
