Title: and what do you do?
Post by: Berliegh on November 12, 2007, 03:37:38 PM
I spend far too much time in here and it seems many others do as well.....I wondered what people do for a living?  I'll own up, my partner works far more than I do and is the breadwinner but I do have some part time work.

I spend too much time here too  ::) Besides being online, I'm a full time musician. I give private music lessons and group classes during the week, and play gigs on many weekends.

I'm on here about 2 to 3 times a day. I drive a school bus and have the middle of the day off most days. I'm off today as it is veterans day and my partner is at work. It is raining out and windy and my housework is getting done. I'm on a break right now, eating lunch.

I go to school full time, work part time, and hang out with friends :D

Oh yeah, add homework to that as well as that takes up  a lot of time :(

I do spend less time on here than I used to.  I have become a pretty busy woman due to some changes at work which coincidentally happened after my SRS (last January).  And incidentally I work in the health care industry.

I spend too much time online as well.

What do I do?  Whatever suits my fancy.  Currently I play music in a couple local groups.  I am searching for supernovae and minor planets.  I build marvelous astronomical instruments.  None of these produce a living wage.  It's a good thing that I have a fat savings account.

I spend less time here than part of me would like. I have more than enough time, really, I just don't feel I really connect with a lot of the people here. Feel a bit like an outsider, which is strange when I should feel amongst friends.

Anyway, enough about that. I do data entry work/medical history preparation for the outpatients department at a major hospital. I'm working there part-time at the moment until I go back to uni next year. I spend far too much time on the internet in general, just not enough here.

I also work in health care (I suppose some of my posts gave that away) and when I'm not there or spending too much time here, I'm busy doing something else (well lot's of something elses, I'm pretty busy most of the time).

healthcare worker too: EMT. Work in a detox center.

I like spending a lot of time here, as I'm in early transition and the experiences and advice from all of you keep me going.

I think my initial reason for this thread was to see how many people were in full time emploment and how many were not. I thought many must be only working part time (like myself) as they are in here a large amount of the time.

I know part of the referral criteria for GRS in the U.K is that you must be in full time employment and have proof of earnings and wage slips.

I'm a full time student, currently taking 16 credit hours, and 20 credit hours next semester.  I'm majoring in Computer Science/Mathmatics with minors in Physics and Psychology.  I'm also a mentor for a local high school robotics team, whose build season starts in January.  In my free time I'm on here, playing computer games, or hanging out with friends.

Admittedly my time here at Susan's has greatly diminished over the past year, life has gotten so busy that I have barely enough time for myself.

I work full time at First Student (Canada), the largest school bus company in the world, where I am the Driver development and Safety Officer.  In addition I teach School Bus safety at the many local schools found in Kingston, and I often speak to groups about my life, issues and experienced to such organizations as Queens University.  I count myself amongst the lucky few who were able to "come out" and transition at work where my employer gave me time off to undergo my SRS and recovery.  They completely supported me through out, and they continue to do so.

This company knows how to treat their employees.

I don't come in much... depends on the day.

What do I do... hummm...

I party! Oh, wait, that's not a job. No wonder I'm broke.

I'm looking for a job, and it looks like I'm going to have one working at drug store being a cashier (been doing the cashier for ever, getting so sick of it!) I'm picking this job because I need my schedule to be uber flexible because I have so many appointments. The job also needs to be disposable because surgery is coming and I don't want to start a career job, etc.

I actually have some professional experience, believe it or not. I have experience in print & web design, editing, writing, photography, and so on. I used to co-own a magazine.

I went to school but couldn't finish because I had no money to finish, and I couldn't get more loans to finish. School is expensive. I'm still paying loans from just one year, and it's been two years since I was in school. It sux.

I'm hoping to get back into something that I actually enjoy. I keep having people want to do business with me because I have business experience, but I'm really picky because people have to have an idea on what they are doing, etc. A friend and me might go into business after our GRS (we're getting it near the same time, or maybe at the same time). She's able to get funding to start a business up, but we need to figure out what we want to do that we both can enjoy.

Other business stuff is one guy who owns a store wants to start a magazine (not sure if I want to get into that, since it's a crazy business and really harsh these days, he also has not enough direction to go forward with it; however, there is a possibility he might just invest in what ever I do. I'm considering it, but not sure about it at the moment. I have an idea that involves parties, being social, and making money, but still pounding it out.

I had one (ex)friend who wanted me to join her photo company, and she was thinking of doing vids and stuff -- basically a lesbian porn biz. I was like, "Ur, no." And then another (ex)friend want to start a web cam company (er, porno webcam). I said no to that too. I don't get it -- why do people think the porno biz is all fun and tons of money, when the reality is that it's boring, lots of work, not as sexy as it sounds, competitive as hell, and making millions in it is a dream unless you've been around for a long time. Every time someone approaches me about that kind of business, it bleeds of naiveness and a get-rich-quick scheme -- ur, no thanks.

(and no, neither person actually got started up or got anywhere with the idea. People have to be serious with me if they want me to join them in a business venture).

.. anyway, I rambled on long enough. :P

I am seeking work but because my gender issues mucked me up so much as a kid I left school with no qualifications which means I can only go for low paid work-so I am now considering further education

Let's see, what do I do. I take a long walk on the beach every morning, I've been doing that for the past few months. I leave for work around 9 am or so, then I get home around 7:30ish. You can usually find me in chat 24/7 but I'm usually only active from like 6 am (when I was up) until about 6:30 am, then again off and on depending on what I'm doing, from 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm.

I like to read, but I usually do that when I'm laying in bed before I go to sleep. I don't watch television, I do play on the computer for about 2 hours a day or so. I like to hang out with the few friends I have. My life has been pretty busy with transition-related things like electrolysis (3 hours a week but I'm going to 6 per week starting this week), an hour of speech a week, therapy every other week, group whenever I feel like it.

Other than that, I'm in the financial services field. I was thinking about getting into cosmetology (hair/nails/makeup/skin care) because I've always liked dealing with people, I could pretty much be self-employed and it's something I think I'd like. I'm trying to find a school that I could attend after 7 pm on the weekdays and on the weekends since I'm working full-time, but so far I can't find anything. I can't quit my FT job and go back to school AND pay my bills for the 40 weeks it would take to get the schooling. Anyone know anything about that field and have any ideas?

I'm a professor, which means I teach a couple hours a week, then spend the rest of my time writing and researching.  I'm trying to find a way to make the reading of my transgender boards and the writing of my blog somehow count towards something academic :)

I'm a medical assistant in a nephrology clinic. I'm looking for something outside the healthcare field. Unfortunately, a lot of our patients have multiple problems and are on borrowed time. We lose 2-3 a week. It wears on you after a while.

I'm really at wits end not knowing what to do next.....I have a few little part time things I do but nothing to bring in any real money. I probably rely too much on my partner.
