Title: Hair removal timeline
Post by: Emjay on February 14, 2017, 05:50:46 PM
Hi all,

So my goal is to complete GCS this year and I'm scheduled for a consult this Friday with a surgeon here in Indianapolis.

I'm having some issue with the pre surgery hair removal timeline and would like to hear what others have experienced.   This surgeon recommends 6 sessions six weeks apart which would put me in November if I started today.  I'm having trouble getting scheduled with my electrologist (I've been trying to get in since the first of the year) and am now trying to just find someone new altogether.

Does the 6 sessions every six weeks sound about right or can it be done quicker?   I know everyone is different and I'm not planning on cutting corners because this needs done right, I guess I'm just wondering if getting this done this year still seems realistic.

I just started doing laser removal and was told body hair should be given 6-8 weeks to recover before returning for another session and that going more quickly can be bad for skin and have less effect on the follicle. Some places recommend as little as 4 weeks but in my research I never found any place that recommended shorter intervals. The place I go did say facial hair could safely be done every 4 weeks because the follicle is different or something, but I won't pretend to have a clue what I'm talking about here.

I would personally go every four weeks, assuming you achieve complete clearance each time. My first clearance took about 5 hours, spread over two weeks, and now I go back once a month for about an hour (spending less time now, though there was a fair amount of additional growth at the first followup appointment and two hours was needed.) The important thing is to start as soon as you possibly can, since you really need a year to be sure you get ALL the follicles and growth cycles. I very strongly urge you to stick to electrolysis for this crucial area.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it.

I'm definitely sticking with electrolysis for this, I'm just getting a bit nervous since I can't seem to ever get in to my electrologist to even get started.  I've got calls in to a few other places in town but so far no luck.

Hopefully I'll still be able to meet my goal.

Thanks again!

I went to Dr. McGinn and had 6 sessions 4 to 5 weeks apart finishing 5 months before GCS.

I'm hoping I can be as quick.  I finally got in to my electrologist today and had an hour session, not enough to clear but it's a start.  We're planning several hours this weekend so hopefully I'll have my first clearing done within a week.

Unless I'm misunderstanding my surgeon, I think they're saying they won't schedule surgery until the removal is complete.  I have my consult in the morning with her so I should have exact information by then.
