Susan's Place Transgender Resources

Hey all!

I've been a long time lurker and reader of these forums, going back a few years when I was still in my teens and helping myself along with starting to transition - here I am, finally making an account!!!

I'm Nicole, a transitioning woman (DMAB) and I'm currently 20 and have been on HRT since July of 2016. I wanted to get more engaged with a community of folks to comment on how I'm going with my growth as a person and probably (as always) look to some peers for advice and the sort. I currently am not out to work as I work in science with heated talks of women in STEM as is but plan to come out sooner than later for my own comfort. I currently am in a relationship with a boy I've had for a year and a bit now - who is about to undertake HRT themselves (yes, we're both trans)!

Keen to start posting how I am and all and rest nicely in a place to foster myself to become more of the strong woman I've always been!

Its great you are able to start so young, already on HRT for well over half a year! I am very envious. :D

Hope you get comfortable here, everyone is so nice and friendly, helpful and full of knowledge and wisdom. I have grown so much as a person after starting to involve myself in this place, I hope you will have the same positive experience. Also awesome that you've found someone special that shares your journey, that must make for a different and interesting relationship for sure.

Nicole, welcome to the site.  I think you'll find what you are looking for here.  A number of folks here have been involved in STEM jobs, with everything from researchers to engineers well represented on the site.  There are some pretty high-power STEM folks around.

And yes, this is a great place to get feedback as well as questions answered.  There is almost always someone around who can help answer questions or just keep company when we need it.

Welcome.

That is interesting (though depressing) about your work situation.  Women are pretty well represented on the science side of things here in the USA (with the exception of physics mostly because just about everyone is afraid of that subject) and they are gaining ground.  It is not uncommon at all for women to equal or outnumber the guys in my customer's labs, especially in academia.  I guess I incorrectly assumed that things were similar out your way.

That said, there are definitely some crusty old school scientist guys that are extremely misogynistic.  But the good (though slightly morbid) news is that they're old and we'll be inheriting the halls of science from them sooner than later and they're thankfully in the minority.
