Title: Upcoming surgery with Dr. Daniel Greenwald!
Post by: dpadgett628 on February 22, 2017, 10:33:22 AM
So after a year (almost exactly) of trying to figure it out and fight with the insurance (which turned out to be a waste of time since we're paying out of pocket anyeay) I'm finally having top surgery!

I'm so excited, I've been waiting for this for years. But I'm also terrified and I can't pin point why exactly. I'm less than 2 weeks out and each day my anxiety gets worse. I've had surgeries before, but the longest I've been under was a little over an hour when I got my tonsils removed. I think some of it is the stress of getting everything together and getting ahead in school since I'm missing a week of classes.  But there is a part of me that is freaking out about the surgery itself.

I just can't figure out what's worrying me so much. Dr. Greenwald has been nothing but amazing everyone that I've seen him; as has his office staff.  I go in for my pre-op this Thursday (2/23) so maybe that'll help me calm dowm some. But does anyone have any advice for maybe how to go into this less anxious or anything? I don't really know what to do but I don't want to keep freaking out til the day of.

I'm a big planner, so planning out all the small details of every surgery I've had was helpful for me. It at least gets rid of legitimate causes of anxiety.

I also found it helpful to set aside at least one task per day leading up to surgery that needs to get done so you feel like you're making some small progress towards being totally ready.

My surgeon prescribed Xanax to take before surgery, and it was helpful for me. Top surgery was my first surgery and I was very nervous about it but not really once the meds kicked in.
