Title: How much harder is it to lose weight MTF?
Post by: Daniellekai on February 28, 2017, 02:15:50 AM
So I've been saying that I'll start my transition as soon as I get to 200 lbs, still got a ways to go, but I'm being very successful at it. But I'm already 32, and I know the older you are, the less the effects, and that's kind of scaring me, I feel like I might be on the edge of some magical point where it will be stunningly less effective if I wait too long.

So the question is, how hard is it for you to lose weight on estrogen? I'm losing 2 lbs per week, a steady clip by any measure so I doubt it could be that different...

I feel like a somewhat small but reassuring nudge could get me to make that phonecall now instead of in about 8 months...

Make the call, nudge, nudge. Or maybe you'd like a coffee nudge!  Oh i tease but honestly if you are doing that well it suggests to me that you are committed and will continue to have a success story.

We are all so individual that it really is difficult to give you research data but we do share anecdotal experiences. I think if we are talking about starting transition 10 years or more past puberty then I doubt age is the biggest factor in achieving feminization or gaining secondary sexual characteristics.

Weight loss is harder for me now and I consider that I have become more sedentary after losing my dog and demanding walking companion.  I also have much less muscle mass to burn those calories up and with retirement I bicycle less often too.  We are fond of saying Your Mileage May Vary (YMMV) as a way of acknowledging the wide range of responses.

Keep it up Hon you got this!

I have not found weight loss any harder with HRT than it was before.  In fact, my weight on HRT is the lowest it's been since I wrestled in high school in 1977.

I won't say it's been really easy though.  I have put some work into it and it's also still really easy to gain weight when I don't exercise and pay attention to diet.

I think a bigger factor than HRT is your body type and genetics.  Mesomorphs can lose and gain easily.  Ectomorphs have a hard time gaining and endomorphs have a hard time losing.  At least that was the conclusion on a running podcast I listened to the other day.

Spent a few minutes figuring out what to say, called the "transgender services navigator" at Middlesex, who also happens to be the psychologist there, got a voice mail, and immediately realized I hadn't figured out what to say to a machine, hung up and then my roommate I don't want to know yet came home... I'm gonna find an excuse to go to the store and do it in the parking lot, lmao

I find losing weight is easier on HRT. Its more about my mental state than anything, and that's much improved. Its slightly more difficult due to lower metabolism, but that's far outweighed by not eating as much - and that's far easier when I'm not depressed.

I'm only CD, no HRT, but I found my weight consciousness went up when I started thinking femme. It's easier to keep weight off now. I care more about my appearance. As "just" a male I allowed my weight to climb sometimes in the past.

I did it, I left the message... If there was any doubt I had to do this, my roommate asked me to go to the store right after the last post. Not anything more than a coincidence, but what timing.

The stars are aligning, the waves have parted, and I can see clearly now the rain is gone but please, your own song is far more appropriate. ;D

Everything will be ok. I think everyone gets scared. In time the fear will be replaced with confidence.

For a while maybe 2 yrs, i experienced that weight loss was harder. I had to watch everything i ate and logged it in order to stay around my pre-hrt weight, which itself was up from my ideal weight.

However lately with a only a slight increase in exercise and very minor diet adjustments it has been coming down. I've lost about 12 pounds fairly rapidly and it has scared me a bit. There is also the clothing consideration. Nevertheless, i do want to get down to my ideal weight and so onward I go.

Hmm, I think I'll be able to keep it up, still haven't heard back from the doctor, going to leave another message tomorrow that's a bit more explicit with what I want. It said to give 24 hrs for a response, but it's been a couple days now. If that doesn't work I'll just have to ask my GP for a referral or something...
