Title: MtF Boston Medical SRS GRS results?
Post by: WishnHopeN on March 01, 2017, 11:08:39 AM
I'm trying to find information on the results of SRS, GRS (or Gender Affirming Surgery....   GAS.... ::) lol c'mon, it's kind of funny) performed at Boston Medical.

I'm at the 1 year mark of hormones and my insurance will pay for SRS but will only allow for in network surgeons which limits me to Boston Medical.  They've only just started performing SRS at Boston Medical in the fall of 2016.  I don't want to be an experiment for them.  I was planning on self paying for surgery with a seasoned surgeon who has a great track record but... I seriously can't afford it but this isn't the time to be bargain hunting.  I can't wait much longer.  I'm trying to be patient but at 45 I'm looking at the clock ticking down.  "Girlhood" and "young womanhood" have pretty much passed me by despite Dr. Spiegel's superb work.

Sucks that we (some of us) have to cash in our entire life's investments just to get what women are given freely from the start.  Although... not having a period is nice  :)

SOOOOOooooooo I was wondering if anyone has heard/seen any of their work at Boston Medical.  My primary is head of transhealth at Fenway and has seen hundreds of transsexual patients go through transition.  He's optimistic about Boston Medical but is also hesitant because they just started (these are my opinions based on what his reactions are to my questions, please don't consider my opinions to be his opinions).  He's very thumbs up with McGinn.

A good trans friend of mine got her knockers done at Boston Medical.  800 cc silicone over the muscle and I'm surprised at how good they look.  They're also very soft.  She's only a bit over 1 year post op but they look and feel fantastic.  She said the care is great but she is not considering SRS.

Hello WishnHopeN! Wow are we twins? Our situations are quite similar in many ways! Sadly I too would love to hear of anyone's experience at BMC regarding surgery. I'm assuming we have the same insurance so we are in the same situation and if it's the choice of waiting/trying to save for 10+ years to fund a different surgeon or get it covered by my insurance much much sooner albiet with an inexperienced doctor I'll take the latter any day, the sooner I can get surgery the better plus I'm having an array of pretty nasty side effects from Spiro so the sooner I can get off it the better! Haha

I've been on the waiting list since december and had my consultation with Doctor Oates this past January, he was very nice and it's he and Dr. Slama who work together on the surgery (To answer AnonyMs). I have all my letters, and medical stuff checked out and it's just finishing hair removal (Though going to take 4-6 more months to fully clear whats needed so sadly wont be super soon) then I'll be able to move ahead with actually scheduling the surgery. Dr. Oates told me they are currently performing 2 surgeries a month but plan to go to 4 a month sometime between July and September of this year when they feel comfortable/confident enough. I'm sure someone will probably share their experience with Surgery at BMC by this Fall but I plan to make a thread about my own experiences to help others regardless as I know many people are curious about how those Surgeons are. I know that's probably not the answer you want and I apologize but hopefully it can be of some help at least in the future!

There was a thread about this before. No results though.
