Title: Who prescribed your HRT?

I'm just kind of curious what types of doctors everyone is seeing for their HRT. I've seen Endocrinologists pretty commonly mentioned here, some have mentioned family physicians and some OB/GYNs. I realize their clinical specialty probably doesn't matter as much as their experience managing Transgender care, but I'm looking to confirm what is most common. I'm going to see the doctor that my therapist has worked with in the past at the end of this month. She's an OB/GYN and does mention transgender care in her profile. Obviously if my therapist worked with her before, she's been down this road. One advantage that I can see is that if I do go all the way with GRS, she'd be my long term Gyno and would already have all my history.
So just curious who you're seeing and what your thoughts are.

There are GP's that will prescribe in my city, but I've got an endo. Apart from an endo being far more qualified this one also has a lot more experience (3500 patients and 20 years), does implants, and gives a high level of HRT. All of which I like.
I'm not sure people most have much choice, but if you do I'd be thinking about what makes one better than another.

My primary care physician at the University of Missouri Health prescribes mine.
I should add that she specializes in Women's health and OB/GYN and delivers babies. She has done my post-op pelvic exams, too. A good benefit, to be sure. ;)

My primary care doc/GP also on the basis of informed consent. She has a couple of trans patients only she said but did do research specifically for us.

Mine is an internal medicine doctor that specializes in women's health through Callen-Lorde who is an informed consent LGBT clinic in Manhattan.
I'm currently the only trans patient my PCP has and she is using it as a learning experience. After bottom surgery, I'll probably just move my HRT to my PCP as my hormones would be no different than a cis woman with a hysterectomy.

Mine is a MD / GP working for a large LGBT health center in Chicago. The MD's and PA's there have a lot of experience with transitioning.

I found a OB/GYN who has been working with trans people for the past 10 years. Works great for me :-) I had initially asked my PCP but he kind of reacted stupid on it. Guess we will see what he says on my next annual ;D

I was referred to a family care physician in Savannah by my therapist. I was a little concerned with wether I would have any difficulty in Georgia, but it was surprisingly easy.

Kaiser Permanente has a transgender program. First I went to therapy and was referred to a GP authorized to issue hormones with assistance with the Endo. I have also taken voice training through them and am also eligible for an Orchi surgery. If I were younger I could get GRS and possible feminization surgeries if it's determined is will improve quality of life. From beginning it took about two months to start HRT. I have now been on for 7 months. I get all my testing as part of my plan.

Endocrinologist at first. Now that I am post-op, my primary care physician prescribes estradiol and finasteride.

My primary referred me to Fenway (like Devlyn). I think the trans medicine MD there is an internal physician although I see a PA that works closely with that doctor and my primary. Great team!

I went to a Dr at Planned Parenthood, she is coordinating my care with my personal physician. Her name is Dr Andrea Garrett and she is phenomenal! I would not do this without Dr. Andrea, she is really a caring Dr.!

My family doctor does not have experience with trans care, and switching is not an option, due to the shortage of doctors here. Most people in this area go to one endo, whose waiting list was eight months and growing rapidly. (Trans health care, including surgery, has only been funded here for a couple of years, so there is a huge pent-up demand.)
To relieve some of the pressure on the system, a sexual health clinic in the city started offering HRT services as a sideline to their main focus of STDs. Their waiting list was "only" three months, so that's where my therapist sent me. The doctors there are just regular GPs, but they have WPATH training.

I go to the Jacksonville Center of Reproductive Medicine out here in Florida. There is one main endo (the one who I first saw and whose name I put on most medical references and such), but there are also 2 other doctors and a number of ARNPs that can handle stuff and collaborate with each other (had blood tests ordered and prescriptions written by a number of them).

You've received a ton of including:
Endocrinologist, General Practitioner (Primary Care, Family Care), Health Clinics...
I think you will find a lot of options - My prescribing doctor is a family Dr that has a huge infant clientele. His waiting room is full of toys and little kids running around. At times I wonder what the mothers think when I walk in now.
P.S. My Dr's wife is a psychologist (?) who wrote a well respected book on the subject of Trans* issues so I feel very comfortable with him. His wife will be my second letter for GCS if I ever go that far.

Yep I sure did Denise and that makes me feel a bit more at ease. I was kind of unsure about having an OB/GYN managing my hormones but I guess it makes some sense and it seems to not be uncommon. Someone made the point, which I think is the main thing here, that their specialty doesn't matter as much as their experience treating trans people.

I see an endocrinologist who now only accepts new patients if they are trans. He said he is trying to slow down his main workload as he is 68 but many other doctors are uncomfortable managing HRT for transgender people so he is still taking new trans patients. They do the blood test right there with a finger prick so that saves a return trip for blood work. He's also an associate professor at the university medical school.

I wish mine did that. He wants 4 or 5 vials of blood.

My GP set up my initial referral to my endo who prescribes and manages my HRT regimen. My doctor did not feel comfortable overseeing this part of my path. He acknowledged his lack of experience in this area and referred to the expert.

Local LGBT Center with an informed consent clinic :)
Was a very friendly but serious process. Warm but also didn't take it lightly regarding testing and long term effects/education.
