Title: Jogging and marathon is a best way
Post by: barbie on November 19, 2007, 02:07:41 PM
Running is probably the most effective way to maintain our healthy body weight. If joints are not in good conditions, then walking fast is an excellent way to loose weight while keeping our body healthy.

After slowly running for 30 minutes, our liver begins to burn fat stored in our body, especially in the belly. Thus, to loose weight, a minium of 40 min. running every one or two days is required.

By this way, I have maintained 64-65 kg (141-143 lbs) at 182 cm (6 feet) height during the past 5 years.

Running is not always appropriate for everyone.  141 lbs at 6 feel almost sounds anorexic to me.

I agree and I added that walking fast is another option for the people who would be harmed by running. By the way, I am a big eater. I also alternatively ride bicycles.

I've started running at the gym every day.

800 calories a day per workout keeps my energy up for the rest of the day, and I'm feeling really positive about the effects so far (2" gone from the waist). Doing endurance cardio, I can do those 800 in less than an hour, so I'm not there all day. It's a good workout.

Running in a gym would be safer for joints, although I prefer outdoor running. I saw some people who started running but could not run any more because of joint or disk problems within 1 year. Minimizing the risk of this kind of injury is a must for runners. In my case, at least 10-min stretching before and after running have prevented such injuries so far. I try to run very slowly in a downward slope and run a little bit faster in an uphill road.

I'm in my fifties so walking fast is best for me.
In fact I really enjoy walking especially outdoors.
And I have been losing weight over the last few years.
Yeah!

I like cross country running were people cant see me. And I like nature. But at the moment my breasts feel funny when I jog so I will just stick to Palates for now. 20 mins a day a few times a week is all thats needed to have a healthy toned body. Now If I could just motivate myself to actually do it more. Geez Im Lazy sometimes ::).

I'm a (slow) runner, hiker/walker and would agree because it's my personal preference, but  swimming is the best overall exercise because it does the same thing as running and exercises the upper body too. It's also less stressful on the legs and joints. And it won't build or lose muscle mass which keeps the body the same overall size while keeping the fat ratio low.

For any exercise (not only running), warming (before) and stretching (after) IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, to avoid muscle injuries and pain. For a newbie it is recommended to talk with a specialist/trainer to fit the best programme for him/her.

Running may help build essential muscles in your lower body to help support your frame, which I think you need from the weight versus height estimate you've given. But if you do decide to do this, you'll need some additional back and abdomenal training to help build more support through those muscles for the harder impact that jogging/running does on your back. You'll be surprised how much wear and tear running can do to your body. :-/

Attis, thanks for your advice.

Regarding the body mass index, mine is 19.1 which is categorized as 'normal', although mine is out of range in some BMI tables posted in doctor's offices. My body shape may be unusual and I once saw a doctor who took a note regarding my 'morphology'. I also ride bicycle and do stretching regularly. Bicycle is good for my backbone. My abdomental muscles have been strong since I was boy. Lie down, stretch legs, and raise and lower my legs 30 times without touching the ground is my preferred abdomental training. Once per 2 days is enough to keep my belly muscle.

Unlike the above illustration, I stretch my legs while raising and lowering.

I was a sports person (and I think I'm still a bit), until my mid 30's I was almost pro (and almost a silly heavy smoker!). I LOVE TO EXERCISE MY BODY, running its boring for me, but its necessity.

Yesterday I got my yearly physics exams. My doc says my body it is a teen body!!! (I AM 44 Y.O.!!!)

SO GIRLS DO PRACTISE, RUN, DANCE....MAYBE NOT MARATHON OR A CHAMPION CARRIER BUT GET UP AND DO SOMETHING FOR YOUR HEALTH.

I was just thinking that swimming is also an excellent way of keeping fit. As it uses every muscle in your body! And you can choose a style to suit you! Personally I like Butterfly stroke!
