Hi people I will never be the most beautiful trans in the world but one thing I do have going for me is my hair it has been growing for a long time & now I can just about sit on it BUT I have started to go thin on the top (age?) I am petrified I will go bald I don't really want to end up wearing a wig its just not my thing but was thinking when you start take any hormones treatment will my hair slowly start to grow back I would love to hear from you girls if its happened or not happened to you. I think you should tackle it quickly and try get on HRT as soon as.

I,m yet to see anyone about HRT but I,m told hear in the UK there's a 2-3year waiting list by the way Christine you look stunning how do you do your platts like that.

There are other medications that you can take to stop hair loss and they are available from your regular health care professional. They are commonly used in the transgender community but CIS men use them as well to prevent hair loss. Just set up a doctors visit and ask about it.

You could go to Boots/Superdrug and start Propecia/Finasteride, it more or less completely stops balding and sometimes reverses it (mostly in the crown), you'll need to see one of their 'doctors' who just look at your head and confirm you're starting to thin out.

It's pretty costly tho, can run around 25-30 quid a month from some places, you could also get a private prescription from your GP which may work out cheaper for the generic finasteride.

I've been on it a year now and not on any HRT.

I've read that if you have the money and can go private its can be quite quick.

Thanks, coldHeart, and like others have said, go private at the start for sure atleast till you get hormones.
Can't wait around for that slow old system.

To get finasteride more cheaply,  I asked my GP and they gave me a private prescription for the 'proscar'  dose size,  which I then used a pill cutter to divide into the hairloss dosage size. It's been costing me just £5 for 4 month supply doing it that way.

Ensure things like your thyroid is in balance that can also lead to hair loss. I had MPB and a strip down the middle of my head with some hair, 2500 hair implants fixed that along of course with plenty of time to let it grow. But the check I had which was at about the 9 month HRT, the Dr could see I had new natural grown as well as the implants. The growth seemed to be concentrated above my temples. More recently he had a look and told me there was continued new growth occurring...that can only be the HRT...so think positive :D

Do UK GP's prescribe Proscar instead of the regular dosage single pills? I've been using the generic and cutting them and got them from an online pharmacy but they no longer sell them as UK online pharmacies have been cracking down on online doctor services and don't want to order from a foreign one as they seem a bit dodgy.

Sorry if my post sounds jumbled, it's hard to type it out without putting dosages.

My GP knows I'm trans and was happy to give me a private script for the larger dose pills,  this saved me the substantial fee from online pharmacies,  and the larger dose size is a lot cheaper. I was already taking Fin at that point, it was purely a money saving exercise,  and my GP was happy to help.

My hair is thin although I was able to stop my hair from thinning any worse than before with my finasteride. I discovered how to grow all my hair back slowly without anything but one change. It's not just dysphoria why Ive stayed away from sex, masturbation or anything but also my hair which Im trying to grow back thick like before. Ive seen a small improvement in my hair already after staying away.

This is my treatment right now and slowly I think it's working.
