Title: Hello.
Post by: Arctophile117 on April 23, 2017, 03:55:57 PM
So, seeing as I'm new to the site, I figure I should go ahead and make my presence known here. I'm currently in transition, and thought that maybe getting into a group of some sort might expand my own perception on the incredibly wide range of issues that are both new and being resolved for me. Seems every time I do a Google search on anything transition-related, every other listing led to either this site or another one. So I did eenie, meenie, minie, moe, and this site won. Lol

Not really. I read quite a few posts first, and the crowd here seems supportive, for the most part. So here I am. Hi!

 Hi Arctophile117

Interesting name you have there. Yes I had to look it up. I'm Jeanette. 64. mtf and a self appointed unofficial greeter here at Susan's Place. HI **wave** (( hug )) welcome!  There you have been unofficially welcomed. lol Come on in.....oooops you did that already and your lurking has made you familiar with the premise already I bet along with making some of the denizens here nervous. Hopefully you will tell us a bit more about yourself after you have had time to settle in. Hope you are liking it here and decide to hang around.

  Hugs,
   Jeanette

Soooo... I gather that even mentioning that other website was a rulebreaker?

Thanks, Jeanette. Though I don't intend to make others nervous, I also wanted to determine beforehand if I'd be comfortable with the site. My apologies for any offense there.

I am also transitioning from male to female. I'll also fill more of my profile out both as I learn the account controls, and as I become more comfortable and familiar with the site. As Susan's first list above states, using an alias on the internet is encouraged.

One thing I ask is that you be patient with me as I learn your list of "standard terms," my circle of friends tend to be relaxed about many things and I might use a word incorrectly. I've noticed that even that much can offend people (for example, I take "transsexual" and "transgender" as the same thing, but apparently there are those who don't).

Arctophile, Don't take what I said about lurking and making others nervous seriously. It was said in jest. I tend to try to inject a little bit of humor into my posts. That all it was. Be welcome here. Yes there are some rules to become aware of, but we are a friendly group of people trying to help each other get through life that's a bit different than the run of the mill.

  Hugs,
   Jeanette

Welcome to Susan's Place. The links that V M gave you will explain that your profile will remain locked until you reach 15 quality post. In addition, there is a list of standard terms that will help you understand the terminology. Transgender is an umbrella term that cover all form of gender discomfort. For example, someone who is transsexual is transgender but someone who is transgender isn't always transsexual. We understand that people join the site with different levels of knowledge and we make allowances for it so just relax and enjoy the site.
