Hi, all. I'm about to have top surgery with Dr. Dulin in TX, and I've read over the information packet several times. It mentions rinsing your chest down to your belly button with betadine for a week before surgery, and shaving your armpits. But I'm wondering, do I need to shave my chest? I could probably give Sasquatch a run for his money in that department, so it feels like I should, but I'm not getting an answer back from his coordinator on that one. She says she asked the nurse but it's been a while.
While I'm waiting on a response, I thought I'd ask about other experiences. Were any of you instructed to shave your chest? It seems like a good idea given that it's the main focus of the surgery, but I'm interested in various experiences. Thanks!

I did not have to shave my chest before surgery, they did it for me while I was under anesthesia. Though I didn't have too much at that point. Worst case scenario, you get to the surgical center and they give you a disposable razor to take care of it. If you have sensitive skin, maybe bring the kind of razor you would prefer to use and some shaving cream in your bag.

didn't have to do the betadine thing, but definitely had to shave my chest and armpits.

Hey a question a little of the subject but not. How is your back hair? I have more back hair than chest hair and it is getting long at the upper part of the outside of my arms near rotator cup area. I have been on T for about 1.5 years. I have my top surgery on June 8. So I was wondering does anybody else have the back and upper arm issue. Do you do anything about it? And will I need to shave those areas too for my top surgery? I actually will probably get it waxed instead of shaving but wanted to know if this is common

I don't do anything about any of my body hair. I trim downstairs in the summer but that's about it.
If you have to shave before top surgery, they will have things in the office for that and will let you do it right before. I would recommend trimming your armpit hair but the back/arms should be fine.
