Title: medication
Post by: whovian239342 on April 25, 2017, 09:41:25 AM
Hi

I am curioius if anyone else is having issue with blood pressure.

I have been on high blood pressure medication for several weeks now.

They raise my dosage. I can only seem to get it down to pre hypertention. It's only been a month and a few weeks.

I am just curioius if anyone else is going through this. I really want to go on estrogen but I don't want to risk a stroke or heart attack.

I go in for another blood pressure test Saturday.

Also I am dieting.

  Welcome Whovian,

I'm Jeanette.mtf,64 and on HRT. I'd like to invite you to hop on over to the introductions forum and introduce yourself so we can give you a proper greeting.

I need to go on a diet... but that's not answering your question. I too am on BP meds taking both a beta blocker and an ace inhibitor. I am also taking Spironolactone (with known side effects beneficial in HRT) another BP medication and estradiol. I spoke with my doctor about it when i started Spiro and he was not worried about  me taking both.  My BP has gotten lower on the average and drops low enough for me to be concerned about it and I am going to talk to my doctor about it again now that we have had enough time to see the effects of the medications. I feel an adjustment is in order but he is the "Doctor". In the end I will acquiesce to his judgement.

Please notice all the references to "doctor" in my response, that is who you need to be discussing this issue with. HRT is serious business and if not done under a doctor's care it can kill you. So please talk to a doctor before doing anything.

  Hugs,
   Jeanette

I have had borderline high blood pressure in the past, even on spiro.  Now it's consistently good, averaging 111/73 over the past three months.  The three things that have worked for me in lowering it and keeping it low is 1. Eliminating dietary sugar.  2. Getting down into the ideal body weight range.  And 3. A lot of walking and aerobic exercise.

My endo was on the verge of adding some blood pressure meds to my list until this past visit.  I've avoided that for now.

Every morning I check my blood pressure at the machine at Walmart. I think It's finally normal. I hope it is.

my blood pressure is finally normal. I have been on estradiol for 2 months. I returned for another check up and a refill. my bp remained normal. I move up to the pill as soon as my prescription is filled.

Estradiol may increase the risk of blood clots forming but it is not generally a concern (but it is still best to talk to your doctor about it), you might just need to be monitored more frequently.

Hey Laurie I hope your blood pressure issue is fine now! Do you mind sharing if you have talked to the doctor and what his respond was?

I had some BP issues, but not the usual ones. My BP was consistently low before hormones, low enough that the doctor used to ask me how I was conscious. HRT has brought my BP up to "normal" levels - highest I've seen it was 130/90.

The risk of clots with modern, bio-identical esters of estradiol, such as estradiol valerate, is small enough that it's not worth mentioning, particularly for those injecting, using patches or taking estradiol sublingually.  The clotting issues are mainly associated with things like ethinyl-estradiol and conjugated equine estrogens. I basically go to planned parenthood for my meds. They check my blood pressure and temperature. So far it remains in a safe area.

Sometime in the future, I would like to see an endocrinologist. but I am not sure how much it will cost. I will research that sometime this week.
