Title: I just went outside in a skirt for the first time
Post by: AnamethatstartswithE on April 27, 2017, 09:45:09 PM
From my back door to my garage to make sure my leaf blower will be fully charged for tomorrow. And technically it's a skort (one of those running skirts, I love them, they're soooo comfortable). But whatever, a win is a win.

I bet it was thrilling, exciting, scary, and weird all at once.

Congratulations!

Cool, good for you.  Each step in the right direction is another step closer to being your true self.

Wow! That's really a big happening! Congratulations and lucky you! I can't wait to do that myself, but it's way too soon for me... For the time being, I'll just keep dreaming about it...
Hugs, Sarah

Do you realize that with "harmonious clothing" (that looks like it belongs on you- a matter of carriage and ATTITUDE!) and a bit of makeup (your hair is SMASHING, girl!), you can pass! Really! Wear that lovely (I'm sure of this!)to the store next time you go. No one's really gonna take notice. Truly, most people won't look unless you take steps that ensure you cannot pass. Orrr, they will look at you in an admiring way if you've taken steps to make yourself up to look like a woman... YOU!

I hate to be the one to say it, but that's a wig I no longer own, though I have been growing my hair out since the summer of 2015.

Thank you everybody for the kind words, honestly it was kind of anti-climatic.

Anti-Climatic: I found the same thing the first time.  I decided I needed more and went on vacation 1000 miles away and packed 50M:50F clothes.  I learned a few things that I "knew" but...

The sky didn't fall
The world didn't end
Nobody cared.

The last one, Nobody Cared, is your anti-climatic feeling.  At one point I just wanted to run up to someone and say "LOOK WHAT I'M DOING!" just to get a reaction.  (And I actually kinda did but that's another story.)

I grew mine out and it's made all the difference. It will for you, too! Just get it styled and "train it in". God bless you, girlfriend!

Its like whats happened to me wearing nail varnish all week , no reactions, a few looks as it catches people out as not expecting it , just makes me want to push the boundaries more.

Congratulations, E!  Once you start going outside as yourself more often, you are likely to find that that anticlimactic feeling is one of the nicest things.  It helps set aside the fears.

I can walk down the street as myself and realize that no one notices me because I look quite ordinary.  I am not a freak or a monster.  I am just a woman going somewhere.  I get stared at so seldom that I figure the starers must be awed by my beauty!  (JK)

Way to go, E. The first few times I only went out for walks in the neighborhood after dark.

So happy for you! Reminds me of my first times on the porch or the back yard (back yard is adjunct to a mall parking lot).
It will become somewhat normal over time.

You go girl!

Hey congrats! I personally shop pretty much only in the womens section anymore. Also tomorrow I'm going to the mall to get my colors done. If you need to just wear your skort (I love them too) around the house until you have enough confidence to do it on a regular basis, take your time. You can't rush it. But I'm glad you had the courage to do it today. Keep strong, girl!

My hair is down to my shoulders and I went in once a month since '15, training it in. Keep it goin'! You'll be looking good soon enough! And remember something; you are always THE MOST CRITICAL person amongst your "audience".
You have only ever known you as a male (genetically or otherwise), and it's gonna be harder for your own very critical eyes for you to pass than any other person's eyes.
Others don't know you as a male OR a female, and your own preconceptions as to how this is supposed to progress are skewed by the lack of confidence that every last one of us feels.
Always remember that you have lived a life, and don't need to prove anything to anyone in all this world, ever again. You need to know here that I went through this also. I speak from experience. I was a paratrooper (4 yrs), a volunteer auxiliary cop and a Paramedic, all over a 30 year period. I raised 4 children, and had to fight to see them. I won.
And after deciding to be open and honest about my being tg, I discovered that most professional people will back up and deal with me on a straight-as-an-arrow basis, so long as I initiated. I simply refuse to be intimidated.
Once, a town resident here where I live tried teasing me rudely and crudely on line at the local supermarket.I was dressed in a simple pair of jeans, white sneakers, a pull-over light blue top, earrings and makeup. My hair was well-grown out, and styled nicely and quite femininely.
If I go out dressed "down" and without makeup, I'm always referred to as "ma'am". So when I was verbally assaulted by this moron who'd known me as a genetic male, I turned and relied upon my training as an Airborne Infantryman and made him understand that he wasn't going to treat me like that. I verbally dressed him down, and faced him down right in front of the entire store. I REFUSED TO BE MADE AFRAID.
The most interesting part of my airborne training to me was knife fighting. But where I excelled was in unarmed self defense. And it is AMAZING just how painful 2lbs of force on a thumb can be, if it's done right. And it was.
I insist on being treated like a lady. And every woman in that store applauded my actions. All 20-something of them!
I'm not advising that you do as I did. But I do advise you to refuse to be afraid. Live your life, and stand up, even to your family. Maybe, especially to your family. And remember that my prayers are always with you. Always. You are my sister.

The small steps are so important and a huge confidence builder. Today I am wearing for the first time to work a camisole with a underwire bra. It feels wonderful! And to top it off I fill the cups so there is no hiding it completely under my shirt.
