Title: Improvement with every encounter
Post by: DawnOday on June 09, 2017, 05:43:17 PM
Emily my speech therapist and transition coach has been having me come to my last two appointments dressed. So yesterday I spent about 30 minutes in the bathroom getting ready. I walked into the office and there were three people in the lobby.  Emily is the only one who has seen me up to now and when I left her office there were about 10 people in the lobby. I made it. I didn't die. I did get looks. I smiled and walked on by. Very positive experience. Not ready for full time yet. But enough confidence to walk in the Pride Parade on Capital Hill in Seattle.

Congratulations, the first few times are the hardest.

Keep at it girl.  One of the biggest challenges we face is getting up the courage to venture out into new spaces.  You're doing great!!

Very good, Dawn. It does get easier. And you learn how to put on "just enough to get by" in about 10 minutes in a church bathroom lol from experience. Not that I pass, but I'm not too much of an embarrassment to our community, at least I hope.

Gratz, Dawn!  It'll get easier and easier up until you reach the threshold that cis-women fret over too.  You're in one of the best places in the country for trans acceptance, so less worry, more practice!  Hopefully we'll be moving into your neighborhood in a year or so, maybe I'll wink at ya on the street.  :P

Congratulations, Dawn!  It does get easier.  Eventually you'll start to become more comfortable in your own skin, and find you can run an errand or two on the way to or from your appointments.  (I found myself trying to find things to do so I wouldn't have to change to male drab.)

Life gets better!

Congratulations Dawn - my bad for not spotting your posting a few days eariler.  I walked in the Seattle Trans Pride parade a couple days ago, first one I have attended.  Next time something like this comes up let me know and I'll join you.

This every day and forever!
Was very happy and content at the weekend in my dress but needed food so out of dress, into boring awful mens clothes, off went the lovely (and fake haha) hair and off I went.
Then back and back into the dress and wig.
Such a pain in the backside! Was very tempted to go out in my dress buuuut not yet ready :)

Unfortunately the heat would not allow me to attend. My heart and diabetes make heat the enemy. Having said that I was there in spirit. Do you attend wed meetings at Ingersoll? I try to go when I can. Maybe we can meet up there. Here is something to plan for. Gender Odyssey Seattle
August 23-24, 2017 - Professional
August 24-27, 2017 - Family & Community
WA State Convention Center, Seattle, USA

I have attended a meeting at Ingersoll Gender Center, it's an excellent resource.  I don't currently attend meetings on a regular basis, but if you have a particular meeting any time where you would want additional support I am there for you and glad to attend.  Or just for fun.

Gender Odyssey Seattle in late August - I should probably go, or at least grab a coffee together if you are planning to attend.  Would be great to catch up and compare notes.

After a life of thinking I was alone in this, it's nice to visit with others and learn from their experience. I have never been afraid to learn.
