Title: Estrogens only therapy can cause illness?
Post by: mikela83 on June 24, 2017, 06:46:13 AM
Hi! I take estrogens+androcur for years, but Androcur cause me too low sexual desire also if small doses. There is some physical negative effect using only estrogens without andiandrogens? I refer to situation of a body that have testosteron and estrogen meanwhile in circulation, not about estetic question :)

I haven't heard of any health consequences to only taking estrogen while the body still produces testosterone. Have you talked to a doctor regarding it? That would be a good way to get the information you want, in order to make an educated decision regarding your health.

Welcome to Susan's Place. Before blockers were available, we were on estrogen only treatment. There were no health complications because of this however I suspect our development may have been slower as the result. Also because there was still testosterone in our system, our dysphoria remained strong until we had GCS and removed the source of testosterone. Blockers are a better way to transition however they aren't required.

High enough estrogen will strongly suppress testosterone, to castrate levels, through negative feedback inhibition. These days, the estrogen is bio-identical and much safer. Studies have shown higher doses of bio-identical estrogen to be relatively safe, more so if taken non-orally. Anti-androgens are optional these days. Times have changed.

Also, some find that after being on Androcur for quite some time, discontinuing it has no effect on testosterone. That is, testosterone production still remains low after Androcur is stopped. :)

thanks for reply!
My trouble is that i can't ask to italian (i'm italian) endocrinologist cause they think erection suppression like a goal for transition. I'm in therapy till 2011, and I want to keep my genitals. I can evaluate castration but not vaginoplastic. I think italian's mind about transition in really less free than american, so I decide to write here. I'm veterinarian so I know some basic in endocrinology and medicine but this argoument is a taboo and a discussion is very hard to have. I had to discuss a lot to low the androcur dosage cause they want my testosteron at 0,00 thoungh it's not at 0 even in woman! We must be smart.. cause we are still a problem for italian society. We have to require permission to the judge to change name, and it's a procedure that is 1/3 years long.. it's only 1 years that judge don't require sterilization for id change. If they discover something that unlike like "oh! you like to have erection!" the wrong judge can make the procedure a real hell. I'm going to have the verdict that change my id, after I'll be more free to insist in a treatment more near to my desire, for now I have to combine desire and prudence
