Title: Hi, I'm new
Post by: JayWolfe on June 24, 2017, 03:44:10 PM
Hello everyone. I've recently come out to my friends and family as being transgender. I'm so happy I did, because everyone was so accepting and kind about it (quite a few said it didn't come as a big surprise lol). I was terrified, but i also knew that i couldn't keep living my life in misery. I'm 21 years old, and i've lived my entire life as a male. I'm truly happy for the first time in a very long time. I haven't began on hormones or therapy as i'm currently unemployed, but i hope to find something soon that will allow me to pursue my goals and become happier in my own body. If you want to know anything else, i'm an open book. Have a good day!

Welcome, JayWolfe!  It sure feels good to live authentically. We as humans all have that right from birth. Problem is that society likes to mold us into something we are not, and that is a constant battle.

But, you are not alone :)

JayWolf,

Welcome to the site. Sorry this is so late getting to you.

Congratulations on coming to grips with this. It is a tough thing to do for most of us. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Are you seeing a therapist yet? I would encourage you to do so. Particularly if you can get a gender therapist. They can really help guide one through the maze that is the trans experience.

Hi Jay!

Congratulations on recently coming out to your friends and family.  I know from personal experience that isn't easy and has risks.  I had the conversation with my parents ten days ago and I feared that more than the 200 hours of electrolysis I've endured.  I debated and considered laser for several days before getting the courage to start that, hesitated several weeks before contacting an electrologist, but it took literally years before I told my parents - the thought woke me up at night.  Turns out they are both not just accepting this - my dad is suddenly closer and uses terms like "we" for the first time and my mom is excited.  I was shocked, considering they are both 86 and politically conservative.  After all that electrolysis I know what shocked is.

Best wishes on your job hunt.  Depending on which country you are in, the type of health insurance an employer offers is an important factor.  Smart companies have figured out when they sincerely help their employees, the company benefits when people can be their best.

There's a wealth of information and experience here.  I'm just learning myself, but glad to share what I know.
