Title: Transitioning in the Military

Hello! I'm a transwoman in the military, and just last Monday the 19th of June I told this to my psychiatrist, and now I've begun the long tedious journey to transition while serving in the armed forces.
I'm not new to the forums (though I've been away for a long time), but I wanted to reintroduce myself because I've been going by a new name online, and that name is Brandi.
It's been really good for me to finally be where I am, but I have a lot of obstacles that I need to face, and I'm very unsure of what lies ahead. I have informed my supervision, and some of my colleagues, but I still have not come out to my parents, my wife, and my children.
I did come out to my wife around two years ago but she didn't take the news very well. She bombarded me with anger, and questions that I hadn't yet considered. Because of that, I went back into the closet until now.
I'm interested in learning more about the transition process, as well as to find resources for help me along the way. For instance, I've never applied my own make-up before – though I have had someone else do it for me!
That's me – hello!

Thank you for that! I was just added to the group last night on a recommendation from a friend. JL introduced me later in the evening as Brandi. I'm the one wearing the creepy fox costume, haha!

Welcome, Brandi!
Transitioning in the military would be pretty tough, although I understand that they do cover the cost, which is a big plus. Nevertheless, the more people have the courage to transition in all areas of life, the better a society we will become.
Susan's Place is full of resources for all of us. I have learned so much about trans women (I'm trans man) here, which made me appreciate and understand transgender people like never before. Just being here and reading other's experiences is a huge education for me.
Welcome, once again!

Hi Brandi, and welcome! I never served in the military, but some of the best people I've met in private industry came from the military - people who have found ways to identify strengths and get past obstacles. And congratulations for making such an important decision for your future.

Welcome!! again? :)
I can't even imagine what it would have been like had I considered transition while I was in the military... Although the few months I was in was very shortly after "Don't ask don't tell" was repaled so... openly gay people were still kinda lurking around hiding trying not to get harrassed.

I've been in for a little over ten years now, and I remember when DADT was repealed. And now I hoe that this new initiative can work out just as smoothly.
Also, thanks to everyone for the warm welcome!!!

I'm in the Canadian Air Force. I actually have enough time in to retire so that is what I decided to do. There just seem to be so many hoops to jump trough and the possibility of the discrimination that I don't want to deal with.
