I was asking around about the process for transitioning from MTF. From they way I understand it there are two basic routes for doing this.
Route 1:
Go see a gender counselor, once you get a sign off from them you go to the doctor, then you can get started. etc.
Route 2:
Informed consent, planned parenthood.
Now I've been told the best route is Route 1, and if I went down Route 2, that it would hurt any insurance I ever try to get in the future. I'm curious in your experiences, at least I guess Route 2, if it has had negitive impacts? and if so what they are?

If you're questioning, it's probably best to see a counselor. If you're not, the first thing I'd do is ask my primary care if they would prescribe HRT. If they don't agree, I'd use informed consent. The final option for me would be the pesky, drawn out therapist/endocrinologist route. I don't think it would affect your insurance either way.

If your long term goal is surgery, therapy will help document your treatment for the insurance company. The therapist will also be able to prove any RLE requirements that an insurance company may have before surgery. If your only goal is HRT, either option would work.
