Title: I think I may need to find a new therapist
Post by: AnamethatstartswithE on August 07, 2017, 05:58:12 PM
She seems to be a big name for lgbt patients in the area, and she also teaches. But since April she's just been incredibly flaky. I have to ask like 3 times for anything to get done, and I don't think she ever reviews her notes before a session because she always seems to be all over the place when we start. I've been trying to get my hormone letter from her. She was going out of town but told me she'd have it by Wed Aug 2, and that never happened. To top it all off one of the big problems is that her staff is even less reliable. They've repeatedly said they'd call me back about things and then they never do, They say they'll relay messages which they won't do, and they get annoyed with me when I end up having to keep checking up with them.

The doctor who does hormones in the area won't even give me an appointment without the letter, so this is really getting frustrating. Furthermore I'm worried that if I do find a new therapist that I'll be starting over at square one and have to wait another 6 months to do this. This is ridiculous, I have 3 degrees, own my own house and have been very successful in a scientific field yet these doctors treat me like I'm some junky trying to get prescription painkillers. It makes it hard not to laugh out loud when I read some of these anti-trans internet commenters talking about how kids are having hormones forced on them after 1 pediatrician visit, which doctors are these, let me know their names.

Thanks for letting me vent.

It occurs to me that maybe the hormone doctor's office would know some names to try.

Sounds like they are overworked and understaffed. I would try not to have hard feelings toward them, but finding another therapist that can meet your needs in a timely manner is reasonable. This is your physical and mental health you're dealing with, you need treatment when you need it.

I would switch too. There was this therapist who worked at the LGBT center, mind you, and was supposed to be really good but she didn't help me much. I have another one now who is great.

Start looking for another one and still schedule this one, whichever happens faster to get your hormones, take it.
