Title: Avoiding weight gain
Post by: BlueJaye on August 09, 2017, 04:04:09 AM
Hi, I was wondering if good diet and exercise is sufficient to avoid weight gain?

Yes.  It's not hard not to gain weight.  It's also not hard to lose weight if you want to do it.

Good. I am glad to hear that. I have been making good progress on weight loss. Once I find a therapist, if we end up using HRT, I don't want to undo the progress I have made. I would still do it, but knowing that weight gain doesn't have to be a big problem is nice to know.

+10 on Deborah. She introduced me to the ketogenic diet and I've dropped 33lbs in 7 weeks. 128 to go. :)

Intermittent fasting is another very effective method that can be used by itself or combined with low carb or ketogenic diets.  I'm currently using the 16 hour fast 8 hour eat method daily to easily maintain my weight without any calorie restriction.

I really believe the ketogenic diet may work for many and science has pretty much proven it works, is effective and can improve health BUT, for some odd reason, I don't do well on it. I have to consume a minimum amount of carbs, in excess of 100 grams daily, to feel 'normal'.

I tried the diet Penn Jillette did and I lost weight faster, but I felt like ->-bleeped-<-. I can't believe he used it...and I even bought his book. We have to find what works for us as individuals and sometimes that takes awhile. As I like to say, whatever works.

hello! I decided back in Feb that I finally needed to transition, and I decided that first I needed to focus on some major weight loss. I don't know how much I was at in feb, but back in Dec I was over 286. As of this past Friday I'm down to 208! I started HRT on July 17th and I actually lost 4lbs my first week, and then gained 2 or 3 during my 2nd week, which really bummed me out. Then a week later I had somehow lost 7lbs!! I exercise every day and try to watch what I eat. I still have another 30 to 40 lbs I wanna get rid of, which I think I'll be able to do. my appetite definitely increased when I started HRT, so while exercise is a big part of it, so is willpower

I've gained 30 pounds the last year transitioning.  I just want to eat all the time now.  Like stomach growling hungry.

I find that a couple glasses of hot tea curbs my hunger and allows me to keep to minimum calories.  I'm not svelt yet, but am now considered skinny.  I find that seeing the weight go down on the scale each morning is incentive enough.  Btw, I only do portion control.  I do not do any special diet.  It's worked for 25 lbs, and doesn't make me feel terrible.  I cheat once a week too.
