Title: hair transplants
Post by: Amoré on September 11, 2017, 02:48:56 PM
Hi has anyone undergone hair transplants. Does it work and did it last?

I want to fix my male pattern baldness that testo caused. It is not much but it makes my face appear more square. I would like to get it fixed for my wedding one day. I hate how it looks from the side.

Yes,  I had 4000 FUE transplants to my crown in March 2016. I did have some hair on top,  but it was getting quite thin (Norwood 3 vertex). I now have thin but passable density on top with a bit of effective styling.
Beware of the timing. They shaved my entire head for the procedure,  and it takes time to grow back out!
Don't expect miracles,  you'll only ever have so much donor hair,  and many people go back for a second procedure to improve density further,  but it my case,  it certainly worked,  and I'm happy with the result. PM me if you want more info. X

I went to Istanbul in Turkey (after getting stupid quotes in the UK).
Cost me £2k including flights,  hotels,  transport and procedure.
I can't say it was anything like the NHS,  but it was an 'interesting' experience going alone to a country where I didn't speak the language or they much of mine!

There are a couple of pictures on my old thread: https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php?topic=205939.0

As there seems to be some interest at the moment, here's a bit of a timeline:

1 month before transplant.

Immediately after the op - donor site is bandaged, transplant site is left open.

The day the donor site bandage is removed, looks bad but doesn't really hurt at all.

Plus 3 months, a few new (short) hairs coming in

Plus 4 months, better density from new hair

Plus 9 months, better density and long enough to style for cover.

Plus 18 months, coloured and styled.

I had 3500 FUT follicle grafts. I go back on 9/25/17 for another 2000 grafts or perhaps more if they can.

They charged me depending on number of grafts from $3.50 to $4.50 each. Work insurance paid 100% for my 1st round of graphs.

Rachel,
Did they have to shave your head to do this at Dr. Cooley?

No, but I had fut and I do not know about fue. A month after the procedure the hairs fell out then started to grow. I had my procedure in March I think and the hairs are about 2.5 inches now.

The thought of having to shave my head made me real anxious. I would do FUT. I am thinking of contacting them for a procedure in June so it could settle out over the  summer before returning to work. Hope this is not a hijack, Amore'.

I had 2500 grafts from the back of my head to the front and these were done in two lots 6 months apart. No head shaving required...I was able to treat it as my own hair after 30 days last lot are 10 months old. I was really happy with my result and would gladly have another 1250 just to thicken up if I was being really fussy....
