Title: Middle names?
Post by: Katie Jade on September 16, 2017, 01:20:24 PM
Hi all
My wife has just given me my second name, so I am Katie Jade now. Do any of you girls have second names, and if unusual, why? (Jade was the name we were going to give a daughter if we ever had one so she thinks it shouldn't go to waste, and it gets her more involved from my point of view  ;D)

(Hope this isn't covered elsewhere, so many topics...)

My forum thing must be broke, it says your name is Katie Again, not Katie Jade!  ;D

Congrats on getting another name, and especially on your wife participating.  That is cool.

Mine is Lauren.  My old middle name was Lawrence, so the connection is obvious.  Also Lauren Bacall was a pretty well-known movie star around the time I was born, so it's plausible for someone my age, even though my parents weren't big movie fans.

Devlyn, I think my forum name should be 'Katie again' with a small 'a'... or maybe change it to Katie Jade .. vote?

And Marie and Lauren are really really nice names of course. My male middle names aren't good feminised so I never considered doing something with them.

To avoid cross-posting, here's a link to how I picked out a middle name (still subject to change). https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,227028.msg2014292.html#msg2014292 (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,227028.msg2014292.html#msg2014292)

I think it's the third and fourth paragraphs.

My middle name is Tiffany.  I'm not wild about it but my dad likes that name and he chose  it so I'm ok with it. My mom is the one who suggested Julia,  so actually my parents renamed me. Lol

I chose Louise for my middle name. It was my great aunt's middle name and she passed away last year, and it was also part of my first pet's name too lol. plus, I'm a good cook, and if I ever open my own restaurant I could call it "maddie-lou's"!

Aww really cute and nice names. I played with using my grandmothers name or one of them - she passed away about 11 years ago 2 months short of 100. Lovely caring woman, she was in Red Cross for over 50 years, and got to commodore I seem to remember. Masie Muriel, I like Masie a lot and Muriel is rare nowadays as well.
Steph I was hoping for a better middle name than 2.0 and even reading before you got to your name I knew it - Rhapsody - that's absolutely gorgeous name (As is Tiffany and Louise as I have connections with those names as well) and suits you perfectly. I was musical, Clarinet, Oboe , piano and trombone (?) until I was 16 then I got a motorcycle/moped and I got away from home as much as I could - another story,
Any more lovely names

I gotta say, I'm really connected to my female name.  My first name, is my birth name (I'm adopted) with Ann hyphenated to it, because then I fit in with the rest of my family who all have An/Ann/Anne names. My middle name stayed the same after I was adopted, because I associated it with one of my foster aunts that I love, and its also my adopted grandmother's middle name.

So even though my middle name of Louise is distinctly feminine (and as other people my age might say, 'an old lady name'... but I don't view anyone as old so I don't see it that way) and easily made masculine, I don't think I'll ever change it, just because of the deep meaning it has to me.  (As for my first name, I'm thinking a unisex name that's close to it, "Cameron", or just a nickname of my name, "Ren" though I'm leaning closer to Ren so that I don't have to go through all the legal stuff if I don't want to.)

Nothing special with mine. I had been using Jeanette for various online personas and used it here when I joined. Later  as I thought of a legal name change down the road I thought I would like to keep my initials so Jeanette shifted to a middle name. So i needed a "L" name and liked Laura but some friends didn't like it for their own reasons and one of them suggested Laurie. I tried it and like it. But where did I get Laura and Jeanette from? High School crushes so many long years ago.  That will make me Laurie Jeanette W******* I'll still be LJW if I get the changed.

I remember when you first introduced yourself to me, you introduced yourself as both Laurie and Jeanette (I think partly because of the number of names I listed LOL)

Can I just say its completely awesome that your names came from high school crushes.   Oh, dang... Thinking of my high school crushes... I can't say I'd want to use any of their names.  Especially not the name Arthur. *shudder* I HATE that name.  Half because I had a dog named Arthur, half because of that person, and half because Arthur is my kids' favorite tv show. (Yes, I know the math doesn't add up... sue me. ;) )

Lets see.... crush names:
David
Gregory/Greg
Arthur
Brian
Jeduthan/Jed
Benjamin/Ben
Joshua/Josh
Thomas/Tom

I think that's it.  Oh... Thomas/Tom-- Another name ruined for me. No thanks to my once best friend. Brian should probably be a ruined named for me, but it isn't weirdly (Brian's my ex... Also have an ex who was named David.  But one of my best friends is named David and David is my dad's name, soooo not allowed to dislike that one)

Oh wait... wait... I also had a crush on my sis-in-law's brother, Craig.  That's not a bad name actually....

EDIT: As a random side note -- When I was adopted, my initials stayed the same (partly because my first name was only added on to, and I don't consider the A an initial. But my last initial also stayed the same too, both surnames started with an H!)

I mentioned this in the thread I made recently about names, but I am wanting to use my mother's middle name of Margaret as mine (who passed away a few years ago).

I actually like my current middle name of Scott, partly because it amuses me that is my middle name when I am like 95% genetically Scottish. Something about it being just too on the nose, and not even being a family name or intentional in the slightest. But as it has no feminine versions and just doesn't really fit as it is, there's really no options there.

My mother's name provides both a connection to her and her family in general, and I think also just sounds good with the name I am leaning most towards, which would be Elizabeth Margaret _______. (I saw a family history one time of her side of my family, and it is 90% different combinations of slight variations of Margaret and my mother's first name.)

I still haven't decided on a middle name. I originally was thinking of Anne, but then thought that I could do something a little fancier. Maybe the name of a favorite anime or video game character, but I'm wanting to avoid anything overtly Japanese. I'm kind of leaning towards Miria or Mylene. I thought about Terra, but Sarah Terra sounds a bit odd.

I still use my first and middle birth name, just the feminized version of them. It works for me.  I've always liked the name, especially when used together as one name.

Legally I'm "Dion Patrick". :-P

Because those names have family history, because I used them for over fifty years and because I kinda like them (for a guy) I was intending to use "Dion Patrice".

Unfortunately, the "Dion" is becoming problematic  as it's most often seen as a boy's name. I use "Dione Patrice" socially and I'll make it legal when I can afford to. Most people call me "Dee" which is what my mom called me as a child. I was a bit of a surprise baby and I don't think my parents settled on two names. I'm pretty sure they planned to name me some variant of "Dion". My parents are gone but I should ask my sister, she might well know.

:

April 22, 2015, the day of my first face to face pass in gender neutral clothes and no makeup. It may be months to the next one, but I'm good with that!

Jade sounds lovely with Katie

Personally I haven't settled on a middle name yet.  I expect to come out to my parents at the start of next month so thought I might do a similar thing to you and offer them the choice of my middle name to involve them more in the transition

Since I had no particular obsession or affinity to any female name I figured it would be easier to stay with the same initials and last name.  I choose Tonya because it starts with T, I liked it and didn't know anyone with that name.  Funny,  but now I know 2 others but they spell it differently.

Middle name I pretty much ignored and thought about just going with J, Jaye, or Jae.  A little plain so I thought maybe Jane.  Still a little plain so eventually came up with and settled on.......

Tonya Janelle W********.

I really wrestled with my first name. Either Stacy or Renée. I just couldn't come up with a middle name that I liked with Renée. My solution:  Stacy Renée! And it works so well with my new last name (my mothers maiden name, to honor her as she passed 5 years ago).

Aww, thanks Katie. TBH, I was rethinking Rhapsody until you said that. Now I'm liking it again. As for 2.0, I call dibs, though it's still in beta - or maybe I'll go straight to release 2.1.

Off-topic, regarding musicality, when I found out that taking band got you out of gym class, I was in for good (they decided that marching band was enough exercise). I despised the boy's locker room and showers and have never been into sports. The problem was that you can't take a bassoon marching. Can you imagine how many reeds I'd go through? So I got shuffled around to all kinds of positions. I carried a bass drum for two seasons (all 125 lbs of me), then cymbals, and then piccolo. In high school I actually was on the flag corp for a while, which I secretly loved, since it was all girls (though you couldn't tell, since we all wore the same uniforms). The director tried to make me drum major, which I desperately avoided, so they ended up switching me to brass, on alto horn. Only three keys? Nothing to it! Now it's nothing but some guitar, ukulele, and a tiny bit of banjo. And I'm starting to enjoy singing. So just about every type of instrument, though only ever been slightly competent and never great at any of them.

But it's all fun, and I haven't been in a locker room since about 1969.

Now back to your previously scheduled thread.

Rhapsody is a beautiful middle name!

I'm going with "Michael" for mine, because it's both the name my parents would have given me if I'd been AMAB, and the first name of a favorite high school teacher.  I told my former teacher that I was planning on naming myself after him, and he was very touched.

I love all your second  (and first) names as they all mean something special to you as mine do to me.
We get to choose them to an extent, and that for me is ownership 100% of what I am and will be. It helps me in low times to call myself Katie, face to face, and to say to myself  - 'Hi - My name is Katie (+Jade)', and this for me is a resolution of my being, and psychological (base/core) supports the journey I have started to undertake. Its 40 years to late for me in many respects - still I am Katie and I rejoice in that - A Long Long way to go but with you girls help I know I will reach happiness wherever that is.
More names please girls and where they came from - don't be shy
XOXOXOX

Jade is a fantastic middle name!!

Admittedly I'm a little biased considering I also have Jade as a middle name.

For me it was a no brainier, I had been going by Xerxas Jade for close to 14 years online so I knew I wanted Jade as either a first or middle name. In the end after toying with it as a first name I couldn't break the association that I had always used it as a last name so I chose Tamara for my first name and kept Jade as a middle name.

For me it met all of my criteria, I wanted a first name with a T, I wanted Jade somewhere and preferably I wanted it to represent me. So Mara Jade (as my friends call me) ticked all the boxes. Particularly my nerdy side ;)
