Title: Facial Masculinization Surgery through Kasier?
Post by: wheeler0801 on September 23, 2017, 07:59:20 PM
Hey Everyone,

I've been on testosterone for over a year and a half and have had an extremely awesome experience through Kaiser. My work has a Kaiser plan that has made any surgery I have close to nothing (my top surgery was $150, then I got a big revision a year and a half later for another $150). I've been doing some research and I've noticed that there's a few women who mentioned having Kaiser cover their FFS (Facial Feminization Surgery) so I was curious if anyone has actually gone through FMS (Facial Masculinization Surgery) through Kaiser? I found absolutely no reviews on my top surgeon when I was going into it and was hesitant but went in and came out with awesome results. It's hard for me to call Kaiser because of my work hours however once I get a chance I'm definitely going to ask them, just thought I'd ask here in the meantime if anyone has personal experience!  :D

:) Just an update I'm going to call Kaiser's transgender nurse advisors and check to see if it's covered. I'll keep you guys updated!

Forgive my ignorance...I'm MTF.  What sort of procedures do they do?  I know a half-dozen tguys and they all seem to morph on their own pretty quickly.  Most of them are frustrated by non-fixables:  height, limb length, hands.  Still the transformations I have seen on T are nothing short of amazing.

Basically from what I've researched it would include implants for the jaw and chin as well as the cheeks since male features are more angular, as well as rhinoplasty, cartilage increase on the adams apple, as well as forehead lengthening.  I'm not interested in all of these, however I have a very small lower face and even though Testosterone has definitely changed my features I just think aesthetically I would look more balanced with a larger chin and wider jaw. It's something I was considering and didn't consider it part of my transition, but it occurred to me if FFS is covered it might be available for us guys. I'm calling Kaiser first thing in the morning. :)

I wish you the best with that.  I couldn't personally get FFS covered, but more and more people are.

I'm already happy with the changes around my eyes from FFS, and the bruises aren't even down yet.

I hope you'll keep posting as you find out what is available to you.

I don't have any personal experience with this, but it does sound very interesting. I highly doubt I could ever get any facial surgery transition wise cost covered where I live (as far as I know FFS isn't covered here either, but I could be wrong), but I've always wanted that option. I too have a small chin and narrow jaw, but I'm thankfully able to grow enough beard to cover up my own "problem areas". But such facial surgery would have been neat nontheless. I wish you the best of luck though!

Oh wow. I didn't know FMS was actually a thing. How cool.

I hope coverage improves for both of us.  I'm envious of how far HRT has taken my FTM friends compared to what I got, but I hope the options continue to improve across the board.

I hope so too. It really is expensive to pay out of pocket, and not many can afford that, myself included. I'm thankful for what testosterone has done with my body so far, definitely, but without a beard I still got misgendered frequently even several years on hrt and dressing my best, also when I had short hair. Results from hormones can be very different depending on the individual, which is also a reason I think FMS can be helpful for many, just like FFS is helpful for many.

Please know that I totally agree.  I just wasn't up on FMS.  I am reading with interest.

Just because something is cheap or affordable doesn't mean you should get it. Your face will be fine over time.

Agree.

It takes around 5 years for the full effects of T to develop. Even cis men can be late bloomers and not look super manly until their late 20s. If you have the surgery now; as your face continues to change from fat redistribution, it will alter the outcome of the surgery. No reputable surgeon will do it until all the T changes have happened.
