Title: Finding a forum name
Post by: Dena on October 04, 2017, 06:12:57 PM
As a moderator, I attempt to read every body's post and it the process, I marvel at how many different and original names the members have picked. In addition, I often assist people in changing their name on the forum. This started me wondering as there are almost 30,000 user names on the forum, how difficult was it to find an acceptable user name. In my case, I hit it luck as my first name was available. Just for fun, how difficult was it for you to create an account?

First time. I went by Tracey back then. My profile number is 13844, so I  was in before the halfway point of that 30,000 figure.

I don't remember how I ended up with mine but I had to try a couple of times. I think I just wanted "Charlie" cuz it was unisex but then added Nicki since that one wasn't available.

Mine was readily available so no trouble!

My name seems to be pretty unique here in the US. In a few other places online, I'm Ryuichi13.  So I decided to use it here as well. [emoji6]

Lyric was the first name I entered here and apparently no one had used it. I like the name because it's unusual and honors someone I never knew, but was touched by once and was taken away too soon in life.

MaryT is the combination of my chosen female name and the first letter of my surname.  It was my first choice when I first joined.  A few weeks ago, I closed my account in a fit of depression.  Yesterday, I rejoined and was surprised that I was able to use MaryT again.

Now it is quite funny to find that I can post on the same forums where I posted before, and see that there are posts by "two" MaryTs, one with no post ranking or avatar and one with what I now have.

First time was the charm.  Honestly my self esteem was so low when I made the acct, that if it wasn't available, I would have taken it as a sign to not create the acct.  luckily it was a sign too join

No problem. Since I'm just feminizing my given name, I've been using the "version 2.0" schtick elsewhere, so it was an easy choice, and not taken.

When I registered here, I still hadn't settled on a male name yet, so I didn't know what to call myself.  I also couldn't think of a super-short description of myself to use as a screen name.   (How do you pack an autobiography into 12 characters or whatever it is?)  I'd used "The Flying Lemur" on another site years ago--why?  I don't remember--and so I picked it back up again.

Lemurs are some of my favorite animals, because they're cute, smart, and weird.  It's also worth pointing out that the creature colloquially known as "the flying lemur" is not a true lemur.  It's the colugo, a gliding mammal from Southeast Asia that is only distantly related to true lemurs and other primates.

Also, "The Flying Lemur" wasn't taken.  That was important.

I'd been thinking of Veronica as my new name for long before I joined here.

I'm not sure if I actually tried just Veronica when I joined, it was a really rough moment, as for me, that moment was when I came out to myself as trans. I was also really drunk. Lynn just came to me as a middle name that might sound good with Veronica, so I tried VeronicaLynn and it worked...

I knew that Kathy would be too common for a forum, so I added my middle name.  I was pretty sure that there wouldn't be any other KathyLaurens around, and I was right.

First try.  2ez.
Ainsley is almost always available.  :)  It is not very prevalent in the US, from my experience.

True!  I did know that.  There is a female news personality in the US with the name Ainsley, too.  My problem is that people simply mispronounce my name 70% of the time.  I mean, it is not that hard...

'Jordan' wasn't available, so I dropped one letter. Still pronounces the same. Yay! I am a genius, lol  ;D

I've always been known as Don so Dawn was not too much of a stretch, plus I will know when someone is talking to me rather than forgetting I'm Sammi Sue or something. I added the Oday as it was a Dawn of a new day. for me. Besides the only person who had the nerve to call me Donald, I divorced after 3 years.

Not too difficult, but originally I wanted Lilith. That seemed too common, taken, and then I lucked out with Lilis.

See, looking at your avatar, I really quite like Lilith. I think it suits you. :) Although yeah, Lilis, or Lilitu are two variations of the name. She happens to be my favourite demon in the Shin Megami Tensei series of games.

I am trying to upgrade with a AI generate one, haven't found a convincing one yet, will keep trying until I get one.

 Thank You!

Nice, I look into Lilitu as well but I think that was taken, then I tried Lilis and it was available.

It suits you, hon. And now I know where it came from and the impetus behind it. You go girl. Lilith got a bad rap. She was the first female badass.

Hi Everyone

As far as I can remember it only took a couple of go's as the name Sarah is pretty common.  It is also the name that my mum would have given me at birth.  I did consider it very seriously, but I thought it was too feminine for me at the time.

So I used Sarah as the basis for my forum name.  The initial, which is the first letter of my previous surname.  That clinched it for me and was accepted, so 'Sarah B' was accepted by Susan's and its a name that honours the past.

Best Wishes Always

I looked up the meaning of the name Sarah, and it has Hebrew origins, meaning princess or noblewoman. Wow, what a perfect name for you, Sarah!

Your mum was right! 💖✨

I had been using the name "Lori Dee" online for many years. It was available. Then when I went to change my name through the court system, I figured I might as well keep the name. I love it.

I like your name too, Lori. It kind of rolls off the tongue. :)

I have used two different names here. One when I first joined, for a year or so, then changed to this one. Neither were taken, thankfully. This is only a change in screen name, though. I still log in using the original one. I could have changed it to be my user name many times in the past but for whatever reason, I didn't. I like both. :)

This one is from the Qabalah. A node on the tree of life.
