Title: The Official Do You Pass Thread.

This a simple poll to gauge our self perception. I think most of us know if we pass or not. This is a twist, you tell us if you pass rather than the other way around.
I definitely pass as half man, half woman. :)

Very situational for me I think. I don't pass any close inspection, but just milling through crowds, I'm not conscious of many stares. I get more looks when I'm in a skirt or dress, but that probably applies for cis-women too.

98% of the time I would say yes. I have been called she, her, ma'am, young lady, ect for quite sometime. Naturally it feels nice and right. As if this is how it should have always been. However, Wednesday I was at a job interview and I must say I looked quite feminine, and I was ''he'd'' :/ . Hadnt had that happen in a long time so naturally I was both kinda shocked and upset. I guess it is my voice that give it away?? I dont know why he did that.
In anycase that was one time vs 900 other times the past while so atleast I am on the right road :)

I'm going to preemptively say "No" even though I haven't started my transition yet, because I'm 6'2", have a jawbone that could plow a wheat field, and have an upper body built like a brick outhouse. As I like to put it, "I'm going to pass like a kidney stone."
Pessimistic? Maybe.

Nope, not one bit. I do have male fail sometimes though though mainly because I act girly and dress a bit femme. I have a gay coworker that keeps hitting on me, so I definitely give off a vibe.

Don't give a...
A van driver did shout ->-bleeped-<- ! whilst I was walking along. I was ok with it until I realized I was wearing biker boots, jeans, baggy t-shirt and a frown ;) I just give them the finger and shook my head. >:(
If I'm in full " girl " mode I seem to fade into the background. Do I pass ? **ck knows.

I usually pass 100% but after being outed by a child recently I'm going to say I pass 98% of the time.

I would love to say yes. But I can't. I have days where I pass, and days where I don't. It all depends on the observer.
My hair, my unstable voice, my inflections, and some minor actions; all combine to make me not pass. I am passing more frequently though.

Every day I go about my business and I get called Mam, woman, she ,her by all whom I encounter. So long as it is clear that I am presenting myself as a woman I get treated that way...so I guess if that's passing then I pass....until of course I don't.

Yes as long as I'm dressed appropriately. Going too dressy or too casual gets me outed everytime.
Attitude also helps. Being nervous is a huge tell. Be who you are. Own who you are. Be confident in who you are.
Observe others and mimic.

Pass 100% of the time. I'm an Ellen Degeneres type of girl. I see a girl when I look in the mirror without makeup, thank God. Looking like a cute girl without boobs was a curse when I was in high school, but now it's a middle-age blessing. :eusa_dance:

So far so good. I don't have any trouble passing as long as I'm dressed the part.
The real pain in the butt is trying to do boy mode now until I finish transitioning at work. I get stared at so hard and people just avoid using pronouns at any cost it seems.

Depending on how I dress and style my hair, I pass most of the time. I even have trouble with looking more gender neutral some days. Damn, I'm loosing my shape-shifting abilities!

I'd say I pass fairly well, except maybe with children. I keep getting strange looks & double takes from some of them, but so far no one has said anything.

I pass very rarely, like I'll occasionally get "sir" if I'm somewhere dark and they can't see me too well. I think part of it is that my chubby face really feminizes me. I hope to pass better when I lose more weight. The other problem is that I'm huge in the chest, and binding doesn't help very much. I go for my first consult for top surgery on Monday, so hopefully that will change too.

If you measure passing as "I don't get verbally misgendered" then i would say I'm at 98% or better.
If you measure passing as "I get treated pleasantly as the gender I identify with" then I am at 100%. The effect of confidence thing is real.
If you measure passing as "no one knows I'm trans" then I have no idea. Dawn is the only one who's seen me in real life, so I trust her assessment way more than my own.
And for the record, the second measure is the one I really care about the most.
Thank goodness I learned early on that acting like this is how it's supposed to be is 90% of the battle. The rest is just a few skills (e.g., makeup, learning to walk and talk) that just take a little practice.

Voice was the big one for me, too. But after training it for almost two years I've finally gotten it in the sort of husky tomboy range, which suits me fine. The real test was if I passed over the phone or in the drive thru. The day that happened was magical.

Seems like I pass from behind but my face still has masculine traits. I feel like I've been seeing more confused looks than anything lately so that's an improvement. My voice is still no good.

That's a tough one to answer.
1. Do I get hassled for being trans? No.
2. Do I get noticed a lot in crowds? No.
3. Do I get treated as a woman? Yes.
4. Do people take me for a cis woman? Unlikely.
5. Do I pass on the phone? No.
6. Do I care much? No.
I suppose "passing" is 3 or 4. Depending which it is, maybe I do; maybe I don't.

Yep. Voice was the thing that was the biggest problem at first. I sounded like Mickey Mouse and didn't have the inflections down at first. I've watched videos, practiced, and It's good now. Try to use it all the time even at home. I spent a lot of time at malls observing how women walk, gesture, interact with cis other women, and carry things. Clothes, makeup and hair are only part of the illusion. If you get all of these things down, how you look physically isn't a hindrance for passing most of the time. Heck, I've seen cis women that look more male than a lot of our avatars on here. The more you're out there in every situation as a woman, it becomes more natural and gives you confidence. Don't be afraid to get busted at first. It will work out.

Voice is such a huge part of it, and training it takes a lot of work. The biggest problem I have is fighting the urge to guy voice the phone when I pick up a number I don't recognize. That and I find speaking quietly harder than speaking loudly, which is a complete reversal of how my old voice worked. Other than that it's coming pretty naturally to me, and even if my pitch isn't perfect all the time inflection really helps cover it.
I will say that checking in to a hotel using my voice while in guy clothes for work gets the most bewildered looks out of clerks, especially since my ID that matches my company credit card has a beard on it.
