This morning while shopping at the farmers market I was getting some bread when I look up and see a person I used to work with and talk with regularly. I said "hey Dave" with out thinking much about it. He looked at me said hello, sorry do I know you? I said we used to work together at (some company). He says oh yeah did not recognize you. The conversation ended there, "See you around" I said as I grabbed some sourdough and then walked to the till.
When I went out this morning I was dressed very casual not done up by any stretch of the imagination but I am starting to look very different then most people remember me. After leaving the market I wondered that when bumping into to people I knew before transitioning should I not initiate contact with them and let them if say something first if they recognize me?

Jessica, loved this little story. When I'm presenting, I definitely plan on speaking with everybody I know. It will let them know who I am, and will let me know if they are supportive of not.

Thank you. I had a good laugh about it. The thing is I worked with the guy over five years ago although we would run into each other here and there. I had not spoke to him in a couple years and he has no knowledge of my transitioning.
I was happy I was not recognized but I think I will not initiate contact with people I know as acquaintances. At the same time I do not want to avoid or try to hide from anyone.

Maybe he wouldn't recognize you as your former self either. It happens, you know
