Title: Is this a pay site?

Hello. I'm a trans woman living in North Idaho. I registered some time ago here, but was unable to do anything except post here. No photo upload option, or much else
I ask because I keep getting asked to donate to this site. There are other places like ->-bleeped-<- that are free. An I required to purchase a membership for a support site?
I'm a little dubious. Life is hard enough being trans in redneck land.

It's not a pay site dear, but they do have provisions you need to meet to upload a pic. There are some threads for rules and reputation ma'am.

Thank you for commenting with the info. :)
I've donated to support other transgender groups in the past who ignore people in crisis. I only involve myself with responsible, and credible sites/groups.
I will give Susan's Place a try. Thank you
Dana

Sorry I couldn't provide a link earlier ma'am. I was on my phone and I didn't have it bookmarked. Here is the reputation link:
https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,18960.0.html
You may have to copy/paste it into your browser in order to follow it. Under the site policies and other important stuff is a bunch of info. Usually one of the mods catches these threads and posts these links. They should be here shortly to help. In the mean time, here is the forum index link with the site policies:

Hi Dana,
I'm Laurie. Welcome to Susan's place. We are glad you are here and want you to be a part of our site. We encourage you to participate in the community here. I do not want to sound like a sales pitch but does cost money to keep the site running and available to everyone around the world. If you read every one of those requests for donations you would know that no one is required to donate to use the site. Operating cost run a minimum of $2000.00 a month. Virtually every month is a struggle to meet that amount. This is all explained in those requests for donations you receive. This site is visited by many thousands of people every day and you would think raising those funds would be easy, but it isn't. Most people do not donate and because of that Susan has to put out those requests you are complaining about.
Again, no one is required to donate to use the site, but it is encouraged.
As for you not being able to do much more than post, all that was also covered in a reply to your very first post in the links that you were provided. Had you read those links, you would have had answers to your concerns. The link that explains why you cannot post an avatar is the link in RED so it will be seen easily. I will post these links a second time for you in hopes that you will take the time to become familiar with them as they are important in making your time here more valuable.
So Dana, the door is open, why don't you come on in, grab a seat and get comfortable while you become more acquainted with the site information provided for that purpose.
Welcome again Dana,
Laurie,

Welcome back to Susan's Place. Donations or subscriptions are not required to be a member of the site however your account will remain locked until you reach 15 posts. This is so we can determine the reason a member is here and eliminate members who might harm other members. As the moderators are very active on the site, this is a useful tool for keeping the site free of span and trolls. This is contained in the greeting links you were given with your initial post (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,192820.msg1719268.html#msg1719268).
Susan understands that members may not be able to donate to the site. Some may still be in the closet, some may be in countries where a donation is impossible and other may be barely getting by. The donation requests are posted when we haven't meet the months goals as a reminder. The site is hosted by Susan for security reasons and because commercial hosting would be far more expensive than running a separate server.
Donations are appreciated but not required of site members.

Hello, :)
Thank you to everyone who replied showing the right direction to find what I was looking for. I read all the information in the links shown, and understand the policies. It all makes complete sense, and very well done.
It took me a while to become familiar, I use my smart phone for internet access. My left eye was injured a while ago, reading a small screen takes a time. No worries :)
I'm planning on donating :)

Hi again Dana,
I completely understand the smartphone reading issues. I find it a pain in the tush myself. I'm older and smartphone challenged still. I prefer a real computer be it a desktop and laptop.
I'm sorry if my post sounds a bit heavy handed about new users not reading the information provided but it is way to common a problem. Please be welcome and know that you are wanted here. This site is not about money. There are operating costs and it is a struggle to meet them. But we are a support site and are all about helping each other. I hope you will join in.
Hugs,
Laurie
