I'll be flying from the UK to the US (East coast) next January. I'm pre-op but full-time, my passport and IDs are all in my new chosen gender.
Are there any tips or gotchas I should be aware of? Tnx X

I get stopped every time at the scanners. I'm presenting male and they pick up my breasts. You may have the opposite problem.

I just tell them I'm trans, and almost always get a pat down. I've never had any difficulty apart from that.

Ye, the scanner might be fun,  but I'm not stealth,  they can cop a feel as long as they're good looking hehe
I'm assuming there is no issue with me taking my E in my hold luggage?

No issue stateside with the Drugs as long as the label is on the bottle.  Assuming you are flying through JFK, LGA or PHL you should have no real issues

Keep drugs in their original packaging and have your prescription. I'd guess that enough, but I never take the prescriptions and Ive never been checked.

I have been traveling a lot between Canada and the US and never had issues, even clearly presenting female including skirt with my old male ID's. I usually take all my meds in a day dispenser so no labels or anything on them. No one ever checked my medications. Technically you should either have a prescription or the original label on the bottle....

Once you take them out of the original packaging, if you ever do get stopped you won't be able to prove that the meds are what you say they are. It might not be pleasant.

I know a few men that travel kilted and they always get patted down. One said he was regimental and the tsa agent put his hand under and there and got a surprise. I think that's harassment. It's security theater  too.

If anything wearing a skirt should raise less concerns than wearing pants, since that eliminates a place you could be hiding something nefarious.

I'm a bit slow.  Just in case I want to hide something nefarious, what part of the pants should I use, that I couldn't use while wearing a skirt?

Hi Megan,

As others have stated, you shouldn't have any big issues with security. The scanner will detect anatomical differences and will require a pat down. They should offer you the choice of a light pat down right there or in a private room, I have always accepted it right there without a big deal. I have flown a couple of times post op and hoped to see if I made it through without incidence but each time I drew the pre check pass and did not get scanned, what are the odds? The TSA agents have seen it all and will not make a big deal of it. The suggestions about meds is probably good but I haven't followed them in years with lots of overseas travel and never had a problem....but caution may be the best bet.

One thing that I have noticed flying post hrt is that I chill easier. I like long comfy skirts and casual tops and I always carry and use a light jacket to keep from freezing during the flight.
