Title: Massachusetts gender marker changes
Post by: Devlyn on November 15, 2017, 11:25:24 AM

Tomorrow I say F it. That's right, I want an F on all my identity documents. ;D
My Fenway Health doctor sent me letters to change everything: Birth certificate, Social Security, Driver's license, and passport. Tomorrow I'm going to Social Security and the RMV before work to start ticking things off my list.
Hugs, Devlyn

I did this fire drill last January.
9:07 AM - court decree for name and gender change signed
9:30 AM - Paperwork filed, and a stack of certified copies received
10:30 AM - Back in my hometown, posting request to Department of Vital Statistics for corrected birth certificate
11:00 AM - Social Security Office
12:15 PM - In the queue at the DMV
2:10 PM - Nasty looking picture taken for new license
Wheee! Enjoy the Happy Fun Bureaucratic Day. It is a once in a lifetime experience!

All done. I'm legally female in the eyes of the government now. :)
I need a certified copy of my name change court order, then I'll do the birth certificate.

Thanks, Megan!
Michelle, Happy Fun Bureaucrat Day wasn't so bad.
I got the same guy at the Registry, he remembered changing my name last year. He was super nice and encouraging, wished me a happy future and Happy Thanksgiving.

If you don't mind me asking and purely out of curiosity, if a non-binary gender marker option had been available, would you have taken that in preference to female markers?

What a great question! I think I would have chosen the alternate marker if it was available. Having said that, I'm about to save 15% on my car insurance by switching to female!

Being the OCD sort, I'd probably be trying to calculate how many years of insurance savings it would take to compensate for the legal change costs. 🤣
Nice bonus, though. I'm still all annoyed that my shirts cost $1.50 more for cleaning and pressing than they used to. Oh, the things we have to put up with. [emoji56]
