Title: Hairloss and thinning of hair.
Post by: Girlysoul on November 23, 2017, 02:02:08 PM
Hi everyone! I am new in this forum. I would like to appreciate all the efforts that are done and the questions that are being answered by the experienced ones.
I am 21 years old. I live somewhere in south east asia, where we are surrounded by transphobic people any how as long my soul is uplifting my emotions and feelings i am contended and determined to make this journey beautiful and hopefully completed.
My concern is that i am on hrt and its my 1st month completed. I am on spiro,  Estradiol valerate and finasteride a day. Before starting HRT i was in crash diet and workouts that brings my weight from 67 kgs to 50 kgs. After losing alot of weight i started to feel like i am facing alot of hairfall. I started using supplements that includes vitamins and biotin. It slowed down somehow then again hairfall started as before. I decided to start hrt that includes finasteride as well so if suppose i am having MPB it can cover. But i cant see any changes in my hairloss. But i can see small little baby hairs on the edge of my hairline. I dont know what's happening how i will overcome it. When i visited to my dermatologist she just prescribed some supplements and to drink alot of water. Nothing else.
I would really appreciate of someone advice me to do something. And one more thing how long finasteride takes to affect.  The last thing is why there are baby hair on my hairline edge.

NOTE: I'll be attaching my hair pictures. Sorry for the bad results. My thinning is all over the head not only one place.

Thank you all in advance for taking time to read.

Hi, Girlysoul!

Welcome to Susan's.  Please feel free to stop by the Introductions forum (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/board,8.0.html) to tell the members about yourself.

I am afraid I don't have any helpful advice about hair loss.  Mine is too far gone to save, so I am forced to wear wigs.

Here is some information that we like to share with new members.  Please do take a moment to read it.  We don't allow specific dosages to be mentioned in posts, in order to discourage self-medicating.

I wouldn't be too worried. It's your first month. I'm 30 and my hair began looking thicker after the 3rd month on Spiro, estrodial valorate and biotin. I'm now 9 months in and my hair  is soooo much fuller than before. Just give it time and I'm sure you'll notice a difference.

Finasteride, Spironolactone, and Estradiol will all help with the hair loss if it was due to DHT.   Provided it was DHT related you should see slowing of the hair loss in the first couple months.  There may be some initial shed, but it'll come back.  Not everyone experiences the "shed", I didn't.  As far as hair regrowth, that should start becoming more apparent between 3 to 6 months on average (from what I read and experienced).  How much comes back will depend on what was lost due to DHT and how long it's been gone.  The longer the hair has been thin/balding, the longer for it to recover.  Mine is still slowly coming in after 2 years.  So it takes a little bit of time.

It sounds like you should be covered with your regimen, and the "baby hairs" are a good sign. Just stick with it, 1 month isn't enough time to see any results and any treatment can cause a shock to the scalp that causes the initial shedding. (In theory, each shed hair should come back stronger.)

The only things you might could add are minoxidill and ketoclonazole shampoo(no prescription brand is Nizoral), but honestly at 21 what you are doing is probably enough.

Do you have a family history of early MPB?

Hi,

I wonder if losing 25% of your weight in a short period of time is the real culprit.  Stabilizing your weight for a while with a proper diet may help.  As other say the hormones should also help if it's DHT related.

Take care,
Paige :)

I had a slight receding hairline before hrt and the rest of my hair was thick.  Hrt stopped the recession (I got a tyra banks forehead lol) and added some baby hairs but no actual regrowth.  Ive heard from multiple people that there's no sustantial regrowth, just halting or slowing of progression.  edit: just realized you said you're 21.  That's young, you might have more regrowth than me at almost 30.
