Title: Transitioned a little later than most

Hi all - I just joined the site. I've been teetering between m and f for several years, keeping my male side for work and some friends and being female presenting for newer friends and weekends and socializing. Early in the summer I decided to come out at work and it has made all the difference as I'm now able to just be me all the time. I'm out to family, most of my friends, work, and pretty much all of my social circles. So now I'm going to catch up with hrt. I've held off not knowing if that was the right thing, but now I know I need to bring my body along to match where I've already gone emotionally and externally.
So, fill me in with your experiences of hrt later in life (I'm 57, though I dare you to guess it looking at me lol).
Cheers,
Bree

Welcome to Susan's Place. A moderator will be along soon to provide an official welcome...
I am also a late bloomer. I am 55 and started HRT in late March. I am only out to a few people, but that will be changing soon.
So far the my biggest changes include:
- My anger issue which I have battle for over 40 years is gone.
- I am overall much calmer.
- I have lost about 30 pounds.
- I can experience emotions again, and they are awesome!
- Body hair is slowing disappearing.
- Two other little things, my breasts are growing!

Welcome to Susan's Bree! 🙋 I started 5 months ago at age 61. Definitely feel the changes, mentally and slowly physically. Got boobs growing and I'm far calmer in general. Better late than never!
Smiles, Jessica 💁

Hi Bree, I started hrt 6 months ago at age 49. Only out to a few people at this point but that will be changing soon. So far the changes have been slow but steady and even though I have lost my wife of 23 years I am a much happier person.
Enjoy the ride!

Alright I'll claim the oldest responder in this thread so far. I'm 65 and have been on HRT for almost a year. I went full time 6 months ago.

I am so thankful that I have no cardiac problems.
Better late than never.

Welcome Bree. I'm new here too. I think a lot of us look younger as female. Maybe it's the nice hair and make, but it's OK by me.
Oh by the way, I'm 67 and just starting. It's never too late.

Welcome, Bree. I'm not to far behind old Laurie and Dani, at 63. I started transitioning about a year ago. I have had my ID rejected not because the name didn't match my presentation, but because I didn't look my actual age. ;D

Bree I have been on HRt for 16 months. I have been receiving voice therapy for 12. I have had approx. 30 electrologist visits. About 10 - 15 more to go. I was once one of the most stressed people on earth. Now I have no stress in comparison. I am about as relaxed as I ever have been. I attend support groups fairly often. I visit the Doctor every 3 months. I don't have an Endo but my Doc is in contact with one. My medical plan has been really supportive. I got a social worker to help with legal matters and referrals. I got a Gender Therapist, a Primary Doctor and a voice coach who has proven to be such a blessing. The real highlight thus far was attending Gender Odyssey last August along with 1700 other Transgender people and their SO's and allies. By the way I am 66 years old.

So good to see other late transitioners here. I sometimes get down thinking too late now you're just a burly blog of 47 deal with it. But I do take heart reading other peoples posts of both same age group and older.

Hi Bree-
I'll be 46 in about 10 days and have been in denial for decades( never thought I'd make it to a point where I could measure something in those terms 🤷🏼♀️)
You're not alone but you're in good company.
I'll be starting HRT soon (I hope)-
Going to the Dr on Tuesday.
Please make yourself at home.
