Title: Arrrghhh! Freaking Tornado!
Post by: ainsley on December 12, 2017, 10:57:16 AM
http://krcgtv.com/news/local/randolph-county-communities-begin-cleanup-effort-after-area-hit-by-tornado

You can see my house in the background toward the end of the video to give you an idea of how close my mother's house and mine are (were).  Just have to love living in tornado alley.  Last one that came through my area was in 2006 and it went about 300 yards south of my house --and it happened in February.

It was 70 degrees F when this one came through, and you can tell it was below freezing the next morning by the way we are all dressed.  The old saying about Missouri is, if you don't like the weather, just wait 24 hours and it will change.

Wow Ainsley I am glad that you Mom is doing okay. I cannot even imagine that happening to me. I've been through minor tidal waves and strong earthquakes myself but nothing anywhere near the total destruction wrought on your Mother's place. I'm sure it is far more devastating for you and your family.

(((HUG)))

Thanks, Laurie.  I am glad we are all alive.  Her dog showed up on my doorstep about 1 minute after the tornado hit and my wife and I found her cat the next morning. :)

Hey I've driven past you a few times for work going from Mizzou to Truman.

Seriously though, I'm glad you are all OK.  I haven't had any close calls yet but it's just a matter of time out this way.  And yes it's friggin cold today.

Ainsley,

I am glad you and yours are all safe. (animals included) But I have to warn you, I have a pretty good idea where you are now and you my be in jeopardy of a visit someday. My friends live down towards Springfield only a few hours away and I may feel the need to deliver one of those hugs I usually sign my posts with personally.
You have been warned.

Hugs,
  Laurie

haha!  I love that tuque!  It has pink moose on it...lol, I got it in Quebec during my last trip to Brassard's.  My cousin said she just couldn't get over the yellow Oakley's, though.  I mean, really, anyone from mid-missouri would acknowledge the fashion forward approach of a Canadian tuque with pink moose and yellow Oakley's, paired with a Carhartt jacket and Carhartt overalls, right?

And yes, you did look fabulous!  :)

Thanks, Laurie.  I am back into some normalcy with work and family stuff, esp. with the holidays approaching.  Mom is healing up steady and quite well, I would say.  :)  She still looks like a prize fighter after a match, but she is less black and blue as she was a week or so ago.  We are spending a lot of our time these days with insurance companies and repair contractors.  fun! (not)
:)

Dealing with insurance after having a car stolen was awful, I can't imagine how bad it is after having a house annihilated by nature.

True!  We thought hers would go great and they issued the check for the entire amount asap and even overnighted it.  However, my mother actually had an appointment scheduled for two days after the tornado to have a lawyer take my late father's name off of the title, and obviously she did not make the appointment, since she was in the ICU.  So, the insurance company had to issue it in the estate of his name.  So, she went to the lawyer because the bank would not take that check without my Dad's signature (he died last year) and she is looking at having to spend $3-4K for probate to get that cleared up, UNLESS the ins. co. will reissue to just her.  We are waiting on a response.  Just a fricking fiasco, really.  No transfer on death was established before my dad died.  Silly, if you ask me since he fought cancer for 15 years and she knew his death was going to happen....but, hindsight is 20/20.  fun!  (not)

Wow, I didn't even hear about this until I saw this thread. I know some people that live just north of there in Kirksville! I better give them a call and make sure they're OK. I'm glad you're all OK.

I am glad to hear your Mom is doing better. I am also glad some normalcy has returned. I hope you all still managed a Merry Christmas. I heard you got the white stuff I sent your way. Happy New Year to you and yours.

Hugs,
  Laurie
