I was watching how some scientists think that being gay comes from before your born as the mother experiences stress during pregnancy. Maybe being trans is the same? My mother experienced great stress. Somethings I have noticed about myself:
I have no adams apple
I can only seem to gain lower body muscle strength
My hands and feet are small and soft
I have always had a soft chest and almost b cups even when I loose alot of weight
When I was a kid people would mistake me for a girl
My body makes almost no testosterone
Body hair grows very slowly due to low Test (I think)
I have androgynous features
Really short compared to rest of family
Very small wrists and bone structure
So far I haven't gone on HRT but should be very soon; I have been off test for two months.
Does anyone else have this or is it just a strange coincidence?

Being trans is certainly something you are born with. The basic cause is varying hormone levels in the womb. For MTFs, if you produce testosterone in the first trimester, you get male genitalia. If your T level drops in the second and third trimester, you get a feminized brain. The $64,000 question is, what causes the hormone levels to fluctuate? There are probably many causes.
One strongly suspected cause for a cohort of us of a certain age (45-70) is the synthetic estrogen DES, which was prescribed to pregnant women from 1947 to 1971 to prevent miscarriage. The dosages increased during pregnancy, and by the second trimester were sufficient to shut down T production.
I suspect that I was a DES baby. My symptoms include:
- Lack of upper body strength
- Lack of body hair
- Female pubic hair pattern
- Female digit ratio
- Slight gynecomastia

I have to agree with Kathy. I have basically all those traits. Then add in a large touch of irony as I am also 6ft tall, was about the tallest guy the first couple of years in HS, big boned, and MPB started in around age 14. I don't know for sure if I am a DES baby, or maybe it is a case of Klinfelters. To me the cause doesn't matter. I yam what I yam. All I can do is "Manage" my condition the best ways I can balancing all my other needs

While not having breasts while growing up, I've always had a girl or woman's buttock regardless of my weight.
And think that maybe I was one of those babies born with both sexes. My development over the years, mental attitude and that I was told I was a premie and didn't come home right away along with a comment my father had made to me when I was younger about kids with both sex organs.
The fact that he was not a learned man and would have knowledge on the subject years ago made me thing that along with the division between him, my mother and grandmother. I think that had he not been in the picture when I was a child that I most likely would have been raised as a girl - who knows, right?

I've wondered about this too. My dad actually took me to a Dr when I was 16 just to make sure everything was ok with me because I hadn't developed like my brother at all. I never developed facial or body hair, my voice only dropped slightly but was still well into the low female range. The biggest thing was my size. I'm 5'4 and small. My dad is 6'2, my brother is 6'4 and my mom is almost 5'11. The Dr did blood work and my testosterone was very low but still slightly in the normal range. Except for my albinism my genetics were normal male. The Dr said he would not prescribe testosterone because it wasn't warranted based on my blood work and he said just because my family was tall that didn't mean I would be. My uncle was the one who had suggested I should be put on testosterone. My dad didn't take me specifically for that reason, he just wanted to make sure nothing was wrong with me. I had asked him on the way there if he was going to make me take testosterone if the Dr suggested I take it and he said no, that he would never do that if I didn't want it. He outed me a few months later so I kind of think he suspected was coming with me.

Hi hon, welcome to Susan's.
Suspected DES exposure too here. A large tick to all of the above, excepting the long term ravages of T on my body - and those were the US dates if I am correct, the NHS was still using it in the 70's as far as I know. In my case, I'm not sure if it was Grandma (probable), who was gung-ho, and driven, and had already had a miscarriage (my mom was a miracle of medicine baby), or my mom, who used to work in ob-gyn as a nurse... either way, the clock can't be rolled back, and my bod looks like your typical kleinfelters bod.
However, all that research has done is improve our understanding of foetal development, and how sensitive we are to exposure to hormones during critical development phases - for many years there were claims that it could only happen to fish and other animals, but not affect us. How wrong we were!
Anyway, welcome again, see you around on the boards.
Rowan

Reflecting on my life, ive had a few things that pretty much scream that i was born Trans
Up until about 13/14 i had this female walk going on, where i would really accentuate swinging of my hips, it wasnt until someone made fun of me over it, where i was like, OH do guys not walk this way? it felt really strange, yet it was something i was doing unconsciously, so i worked on it until it seemed right ie more of a manly walk
My hair grows out of control, i use to grow it out into an afro, or down to my shoulders and it use to make me feel really feminine, and i liked how that felt, only until people started to notice how long my hair was did i get it cut, people say to me i wont have to worry about ever going bald, which is great because ive seen the way i might look bald thanks to the face app, and its not pretty LOL, my hair has always been quite curly too
My voice is quite feminine, most of the time its manly, but every now and then i have to work on it, ive been called ma'am once or twice and it shocked the hell out of me each time
Going to the Gym quite abit when i was younger, i got strong, and i am strong, i have long arms, but ive never had large muscles, same with my legs ive gotten them really strong before but again low muscle tone ive also got quite long legs
Slight Gynecomastia
People do tend to look at me weird sometimes, and i have been confused as a girl in public in just everyday boy clothes maybe once or twice.... its kind of a horrible feeling at the time

I have seen alot of things that say from fmri and other scans that there is no way for a scientist to tell if a brain is male or female. But still why are some kids attracted to nurturing play like dolls and others competitive play like toy soldiers long before they "know" which toy box to play with? I'm also short at 5'7"~ but back surgery reduced me to 5'2" and I had no idea I had lost five inches until a friend I hadn't seen in years asked why I was so short. That wasn't fun to find out at the time. Not one doctor told me that was going to happen. Now I love being this height because it means I can wear 3" heels and not feel tall. I have very nice legs/feet (feet are the hardest part to make pretty and for some reason if I didn't have girly feet I would have more reluctance to transition, maybe its because I see porn of trans girls on the internet and the ones with ugly feet totally disgust me. I guess I'm weird like that) but unfortunately they end in a male butt but no pun intended I guess implants and HRT can fix that.
Is this perception bias or real: So many crossdressers/drag queens tend to be really tall. I don't know if that just because I notice but the one kid in my school who I just KNEW would grow up to be trans/cross dresser etc and was also the tallest kid at school at 6'4". I remember in 6th grade he told me he shaved his legs and went to school as a girl on Halloween and I realized he had desires of being a woman. Why he told me this and none of the other boys I don't know unless he could tell I was too but I never once dared say anything about my feelings out loud and was quite the opposite in my personality. I latter saw him in the mall at 25ish and he was dressed up as a girl. Never got to talk to him and see what his reaction was.
Are there any trans people that didn't realize they were the wrong sex older then 5 or 6? For me I was 5 and it seems EVERY one knows at this exact same age. Strange.

There are a lot of people who didn't know they were trans until later in life. Actually it seems those of us who knew at a very young age are kind of rare. As for being tall, there are lots of CIS women 6 feet tall and over. My mom is 5'11. When most people think of a six foot tall woman they usually think "model" rather than "guy/trans/ drag queen " right off.

While I'm tall (6' 1"), I'm not all that wide (though I often feel like it). I've got almost no chest hair (and no back hair), I've got thin somewhat long fingers (compared to males in my family, anyway). I actually already had somewhat feminine hips & backside even before HRT, too.
I don't think I was ever 'mistaken' for a girl, but I did have to grow a mustache from 18-24 or so, just so I wasn't mistaken for a really tall 12-year old. I almost wish I had a picture from back then, but I got rid of all those pictures long long ago.

I'm a weird mixed bag. I'm the shortest "male" in my family, but still tall at 5'10''. My skin has always been absurdly soft (my sister has been jealous for years), with the more commonly female porcelain look. My hands are small(well, short for male, normal variation between male and female for width, I can wear fairly small gloves though), I have a natural feminine shape to hips, thighs, and butts (I'm gonna be a PAWG! ... Sorry, too much, I'll never say that again), and a handful of other feminine style attributes and a moderately neutral face. Unfortunately, I have moderately large shoulders (not huge, and not as big as I thought they were, but definitely large side of the spectrum for female) and definitively male musculature with excessive hair. Those last two most likely because I have been apparently walking around with extremely elevated testosterone (1480 whatever the units are). I sort of wonder how I would have developed with a normal level of testosterone, probably wound up a lot more androgynous given the feminine traits I do have. I definitely wasn't a super male-ish looking kid or anything and if I had ever had long hair could have probably been seen as a girl.
