Title: I really need help
Post by: AliceF on January 26, 2018, 03:49:03 PM
Hello.Let me introduce myself.Im a 23 years old male(currently) who has been suffering from post-finasteride syndrom(PFS) for a month now.I took propecia to treat my alopecia for 1 week, noticed decreae in libido and stopped. After two weeks of recovery,i had a terrible crash,i would say the worst i observed sexualy-wise.My genitals lost sensibility,im now completely and utterly impotent,i have no libido at all and my testicles have shrunk and constantly hurt.I have never had any problems with sex life prior to that, also. Now thats its been 1 month since my crash my life is a hell and im thinking about suicide.I also have mental side effects, ofcource, like anxiety, depression and insomnia.

Right now,i dont feel male.I feel completely defect as a man.I have no connections to my current phyisical gender.

Ive always been bisexual and somewhat genderfluid.Right now i want to start MtF HRT and have a gender reassigment surgery. But since my endocrine system is <not allowed>,i dont know how and if it would react to HRT,so i came here for help and advise.I have tried to seek for help on PFS forums with little succsess.

If any of you knows what should i do now, could help me with choosing the right drugs for hormone replacment(especially if youre a doctor),or just wants to help me with some kind words,i please ask you to speak up.

I understand that i probably sound wierd or something, but i really need help.Becoming a woman is the only light i see in my life.

Edit:a lot of spelling mistakes

Welcome to Susan's Place. There should be no difficulty with a normal HRT routine as long as you stay away from Finasteride. Drugs like Spiro, while there are side effects could be taken and should the side effects appear, they can be discontinued without lasting effects. Estradiol under proper medical monitoring is relatively safe. Finasteride on the other hand while safe for most people, can have some lasting serious side effects. If you discontinued the drug shortly after the first symptoms, it might take months for your body to recover. If you waited to discontinue the drug, it's difficult to say when your body could recover.

As normal, it's best to discuss this with your doctor and probably your endo so you know what your options are. A doctor will have the knowledge to better answer your questions and deal with the problems you are now facing.

Hi,

I'm Laurie and I will neither call you stupid nor freak. You are neither of those things. I am sorry to read of your distress over your encounter with finasteride. The effects from it certainly have you upset and rightfully so. The depression and suicidal thoughts are of real concern and I hope you have sought help for those with a therapist. I did. The cause of my dark thoughts is different than yours but yours is no less important to get help with than mine were. If you are not getting help for it I urge you to do so. Once you have those dark thoughts under control a therapist can help you with some of your other concerns.
For your other medical issues you really do need to be getting help and advice from a doctor. I'm glad you are here and we can help you some with our own experiences. And share our opinions and otherwise give you some support as you find your way through these issues you are having trouble with. We cannot however, give you medical advice. That we have to leave to the professionals.  I can and will welcome you to Susan's Place. Come on in.

Hugs,
   Laurie

Thank you all for your answers! This is really nice of you,you have a lovely community here.

Yes,i figured that my nickname is a bit over the top, hehe. That's how i feel at the moment, but i shouldnt project my self -esteem problems so blatantly. Will probably create another accout so i wont make anybody feel bummed with my nickname.

As of my HRT,i have a visit to endocrinologist scheduled, but all doc's i've visited either dont belive me that i have PFS,or just flat out dont know whats wrong.I cant blame them, this condition is extremely rare.

P.S.-exuse my poor english, this is my second language.

  Hi again,

I am glad that you are seeing doctors and are under their care. That wasn't apparent in your first post and another thing we try not to do here is enable self medication. That is what I was worried you were asking for. I am relieved that I was incorrect.
As for your name, You are allowed to request a change up to twice in a year. Of course we hope members find a name they like  and keep it but things change. I myself changed mine. You can contact a moderator to request a change when you feel the need to do so.
Again welcome to our little community.

Hugs,
   Laurie

It's not necessary  to create a second account. When you come up with a new name, just let a moderator know it and we will change it for you. It only takes a few minutes and we do it quite often for other members. It sounds like your doctors may not be aware of PFS. Unfortunately I am very aware of it because Saw Palmetto is very similar and a member experienced the same thing on Saw Palmetto. Unfortunately I was unable to find much in the way of treatment so it's a matter of waiting and hoping your body heals.

You need 15 quality post before you can PM. That name is available so verify your email is still valid. The name change takes place in two parts and after the second one, you will receive a reactivation request. Failure to respond to the request will lock you out of your account. After you respond to the reactivation request, you will use your new name as part of your login. Let us know when you see this post and we will start the process.

I'm going to preemptively refer to you as Alice, I much prefer that over current forum name. ;)

I'm going to warn you about one thing: don't expect to walk in and walk out with an HRT prescription. The odds are that based on what you describe, anyone treating you responsibly would probably wait until you have settled a bit from the PFS. Depending on the country you are in and the doctor you see, it may or may not be a quick turn around. You definitely want to see a gender therapist as well sooner than later to deal with both PFS issues and starting HRT, particularly as a therapist may actually be a requirement regardless.

Also, with the reaction to finasteride, if you need alternatives means to help with hair loss, I keep seeing people say they have good results with castor oil treatments, akin to minoxidil, and I can't imagine it's not safe since it's just rubbing some oil into your scalp more or less.

Oh,yes, defenetly going to see therapist,as it is in fact a requirement to get hrt drugs here where i live.First im going to see my endo, discuss what route should we take, take all possible blood test for both androgenes and estrogenes, then a visit to a therapist. Will have to get evaluated, will take some time!
