Title: Having a mammogram Monday and worried.
Post by: annajasmine on January 27, 2018, 02:50:53 AM
I know it's been a while since I posted but I am really worried needed someone to talk to. I went to the doctor Friday I had a lump my clavicle which was lymph node about the size of a flattened golf ball and they gave me a breast exam. I had some soreness and she put on my paper I had a lump. the doctor acted a little bit nervous and told me they won't refill my hormones until I get some test done. I thought trans breast cancer was really rare. If anybody has any info about this they would like to share please do so thank you.

Anna,  sorry I don't have any information but I'm sending hugs, and I do hope it's nothing. Keep well. X

My understanding is breast cancer is rare in men, with or without hormones.  However, some men do get it, even without hormones.

Anna K I'm not male I'm trans woman hopefully one day to drop trans but stuck in trans state because I need to take care of my mom. Thanks Megan I will send some hugs back to you. Had a good cry last night. Thing like this makes you take a look at life and I realized I need to make some changes.

Thanks Anna,

My doctor said that after five years of HRT I would probably want a mammogram done even though the risks were low.

Sending positive thoughts for a good outcome!  :)

Hugs, Devlyn

QuoteAnna K I'm not male I'm trans woman

Yes I know, but it still applies.  CIS men do get breast cancer but not in anywhere the same numbers as CIS women.  Likewise, trans women are unlikely to get it, but it is possible.

Sorry AnnaK I'm stressed out. I feel like I been holding my breath for the last ten years not fully transitioning. It puts a lot of would have, should have, and if then in your head.

I had my mammogram a few weeks ago. Last week, they called me in for an ultrasound. I am waiting for the results.

I share your anxiety, but I will not panic. I will take it as it comes.  :-\

Scientifically it's anyone's guess what the timetable is, but you need mammograms eventually, and prostatic screening annually. The thinking is that HRT does not result in additional breast cancer for AMAB's, aka "natal males". Sorry about using old and new terminology, but I don't wish to confuse on the medical recommendation.

I seriously doubt the value of a digital prostate exam, particularly if it isn't where the doctor was expecting it.  A PSA as part of your annual exam should suffice.

I've lived with cancer hitting family hard the past decade(my mother, sister-in law, and close aunt all around the same time), and recently had a very bad scare with my sister and a skin issue they are still watching closely. My brother also had a similar scare with lymph node issues (which while wasn't cancer, turned out to be Hashimotos which is better but not great). Whatever it turns out to be, you are in my thoughts. I know the fear is all too real no matter what the odds are.

Actually I had a MRI, ultrasound, CT scan, and pelvic cystoscopy all confirming the absence of it... in particular the surgeon was looking for its existence on the cystoscopy.  All negative... but I agree a digital examination alone does not a diagnosis make.

It's still there, but I don't even think it's worth going through all of that trouble to image it.  As to the physical exam, the laziness of American physicians in this discipline is legendary, but I personally notice no individual nuance in the way prostates feel.  It feels sort of like a rubber coated ceiling.  Mostly, I just feel that my finger is being squished.  I certainly don't attribute much diagnostic significance to my physical exam.

Not arguing for the sake of arguing... but put simply if you're concerned, get it checked out.  I dislike when people insist all humans are created alike, when there are literally millions of mutations walking around.

I agree.  There usually has to be some pretty significant pathology going on before you really can feel anything too out of the ordinary.  Most people tighten up so much during that particular exam that like you said, mostly you feel your finger being squished.  LOL

Got the mammogram and ultrasound they said looks like it might be a lipoma and some swelling. They said I will be alright but wait for my doctor to look at it.

Thanks for the support,
Anna

Try not to worry too much, they may just be doing their due diligence.

Got ct back and it is benign. They say it is probably growth caused HRT which I thought is weird but I need to keep a eye on it.

Thanks
