Title: Rx Info Pamphlet: No Mention of Trans Women

I guess I had nothing better to do, but this morning I find myself reading the information pamphlet that came with my latest estradiol prescription. When I got to "Uses:" I was expecting to see a mention about trans women. I read the usual: Used by women to treat menopause (such as hot flashes, etc.) and to prevent bone loss in women and even uses by men to treat prostrate cancer.
But no mention of estradiol being used to treat trans women.
And here I had thought, with all the progress we've made, this was such an obvious no-brainer.

All the blockers are off-label use, too. Probably keeps the cost down, if they changed the label to Transtradiol the price would undoubtedly go up!

I've been pretty bored before but I don't think I've ever been quite bored enough to read a drug pamphlet. ;D

Now I just picture a giant talking pill bottle verbally outing someone like a bad cut away from Family Guy.

The funniest thing was, when I was asking from a doctor of Finasterid prescription and he said, that nah, it's off label use.
I was looking at him like mad and thinking, that all the hormones that I use are off label use.
Those will stay off label use for ever, because getting treatment of transwomen into the rx info pamphlet would require studies where the effect and other parameters are established.
That I guess would be a first scientific study then about the hormone use for transwomen.
But that wont happen....no money to be made from us ;D

If they mention trans women in the pamphlet that would require that they had some actual testing data on usage and results. As was pointed out already, current usage in off-label and being used outside what the FDA has certified the drugs usage for. Given the already high cost of drug efficacy testing, there may be very limited value in putting more steps in the process.

Totally agree! Where there's a market, there's a mark-up!

I'm sure that if drugs were manufactured strictly for our use, certain government officials would create laws banning them. This could be partly why there is no mention of trans on pamphlets.
