Title: Terms
Post by: punky_glitter on January 27, 2018, 05:34:03 PM
There are some terms I don't understand so I would just like a little assistance with them if anyone can help!  ;D
What does it mean to be full time? Some people have trackers under their posts that say they've been full time for ___
and I have no idea what that means I am sorry!
Also what is GSM? I saw it under the non binary forum but I wanted to know what it meant.
And is HRT estrogen and T testosterone? I feel so bad for not knowing all the "slang" I can guess what it means but I never like to assume! Thanks so much!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

So much to learn when your new and I'm still learning.
Full time means living as a woman or man full time while transitioning with hormones or not.
GSM is Gender and Sexual Minority
HRT is Hormone Replacement Therapy

You'll get it!

HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) normally applies to MTFs because the hormone package tends to involve more than one medication. T (Testosterone) is used by FTMs as T is powerful enough to block all estrogen production along with masculinization so MTFs normally only need T.

Thank you Dena , I did not know that.

You can also see and hear the term CHT for cross hormone therapy. Dr. McGinn uses that term in her literature.

HRT is sometimes specified as HT.  Just as Hormone Therapy
some others:
AMAB - Assigned Male at Birth
AFAB - Assigned Female at Birth
FFS - Facial Feminization Surgery
GCS - Gender Confirming Surgeries (there are, to some, different meanings)
        - to me, it means all surgeries relating to transition (face, top, bottom, ...)
        - to others, it means bottom surgery
SRS - Typically bottom surgery
BA - Breast augmentation
MtF - Male to Female transition
FtM - Female to Male
RLE - Real Life Experience (think of this as Full-Time but early on.  Some countries require RLE before surgery and I think in some cases before Hormones.)
DVT - Deep Vein Thrombosis (blood clots in the legs [typically I think])
E - Estrogen
T - Testosterone  (Personally this is Evil stuff ;) )
AA - Anti Androgen (T-BLockers such as Spiro and I think Finasteride)
IM - Inner Muscular (Taking hormones via shots)
Passing - being able to walk up to someone and they see you as the person you are transitioning towards,
Clock-ing/ed - Someone who notices your transgender status and in some cases points it out.
Top surgery - typically for FtM the removal of the breast material to make a flat chest.  MtF typically are referring to BA

I'm sure there are twice as many (or more) but this should help get you started.
