I've been looking for a corset on Amazon, but they're fairly cheap( around $30) so I don't know if they'll work. Because I heard the real corset for training costs over $100. Right now I'm at 28 waist and 34 hips. I would love to get to 24 waist and 36 hips. Have you guys done any waist training?

I wore a custom made (medical) corset for a couple years. It gradually shrank my restricted waist to I think around 65 cm and my unrestricted around 68 to 70 cm.  (My height is somewhere around 185 cm.) I tried to not depend on the corset's support, but to rather think of it as a biofeedback device to help teach my own muscles to give me a little slack as I wore it.

The effect was not permanent, but the muscle memory has remained, and I can still get down to around 70 cm by exercise alone if I really try. The shape of my lower rib cage may have narrowed a bit as well.

Anyway, if you want to train seriously it might be worthwhile to get one made. Off the rack versions do work, but may feel less comfortable and wear out pretty quickly if you plan to wear them nearly around the clock. The one I had made is still in usable condition even after all the use I gave it.

My 2 cents - if it's $30, it's not going to do anything.

I've bought cheapish corsets - Frederick's of Hollywood type, and while they look okay, they don't have much structure. They usually have nylon bones, a thinner fabric shell, thin laces, and the closure isn't much beefier than bra clasps. You can get a little squeeze, but any more than that and things start failing.

I've also bought better corsets - $100ish, the "4 to 5 inch reduction" from Corset Story. It's made of heavy cotton fabric, has more boning, and they're steel, and the busk closure is heavy duty metal. The lacing is also much heavier cording. I can put it on and easily get my shape from a 41-40-40 to a 42-34-42. I haven't worn it long term, but I suspect that if I did, I'd get some "waist training" effect. That thing is sturdy, and in a fight between it and my body, I suspect it'd win.

I've also gone with the heavy duty elastic shaper. The heavy fabric does a decent job of holding me in place and giving me a figure, but it's nowhere near sturdy enough to do more than just hold in place. It also doesn't have any ability to really squeeze in like a corset does - without laces on it there's no ability to cinch in once it's on.

Thanks for the help guys! Do you know if Amazon sells the better ones? I've been looking for them but had no luck. And I'm worried if I buy from a corset store, they'll have a huge corset stamp on the box, which will make my mom question things.

I bought this one through Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073P62LQW/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and was surprised at how good the quality is.  I plan to have one custom made later this year, and will bring the existing one along in case that helps determine fit.

I just bought a surprisingly good corset from Amazon called "CHARMAIN". It cost about $30.

If a corset is not comfortable, then it most likely the lacing needs to be adjusted somewhat for a better fit.
