Title: Receding hair
Post by: Chelsea on February 18, 2018, 10:15:18 AM
I see a lot of post about hair removal but none really about making the hair come back. LOL
My hair has just started in the last two or three years to thin out in the front. Is there treatment for this?
Will HRT help?  If I posted this in the wrong place forgive me.. Still new here. :)

Hugs

Post like that are somewhat scattered around the site. The effective solutions are a few drugs like Rogan and Minoxidil which are available over the counter and are applied topically or several oral medications discussed in HRT. Even an effective blocker can result in regrowth however the rule is if the hair has been recently lost, it will probably regrow. If the hair has been gone a long time, regrowth is less likely. You will also find discussions about hair transplants and those tend to end up in Facial Feminization Surgery.

Thank you Dena. I will check them out. I just realized that the road of transitioning is a lot longer than I thought. So many things to do. lol

HRT definitely reduced my rate of hair loss, and that's good.  It is hard to tell if I've grown any hair back.  If I have, it's not a lot.  Mine, alas, is more "receded" than receding.  I doubt if I have enough to effectively transplant.  So, I'm pretty much resigned to wearing wigs.  The good news is that I get to decide when to go gray.  ;)

Im guessing then if the HRT does nothing to restore what little i have lost then is hair transplant the only option?
Sounds expensive.

The most effective way to stop hair loss due to a condition called male pattern baldness is with drugs called "alpha 5 reductase inhibitors". These drugs block the conversion of Testosterone into Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which is many times more powerful in causing male pattern baldness.

In the US the most common drugs used are Finasteride and Dutasteride.

As long as Testosterone is giving you problems, you might want to consider blocking the T receptors with another drug called Spironolactone.

I've heard L-lysine is a DHT-blocker and is supposed to help with hair loss. As for the effectiveness of it, I wouldn't know yet.
